Tank with two outlets to one inlet on carbs?
« on: July 29, 2007, 12:28:45 AM »
I have a small tank that has two outlets that I want to use on my K8 750. I sealed up one side, checked flow and it looks good off the bike. When I watch the small clear inline filter it is barely filling causing the machine to falter. When it dies, it starts filling again.
next step will be to use a tee fitting and hopefully that may be the solution.

I have the stock tank, that really looks huge compared to this much smaller tank and really want to just use the stock for longer range. The stock tank has a breather tube and this smaller one doesn't. I like the looks of the smaller tank as the SOHC engine is such a masterpiece why hide it under a big stock tank?

Anyone ever seen this happen, and will the tee fitting balance out the flow so the engine gets the fuel it needs?

Well, taking off the cap made no difference at all and that really baffled me. I took the sediment bowl off and it is clean. There is a screen above that I cleaned too all to no avail.

I am assuming both outlets must be used and as soon as I find a tee I will see if that may work. I did search the past records and really didn't see a similar problem so I figured someone here had to face such a situation.

After eleven years of not hearing this engine run, just hearing it run for two minutes at a time is pretty exciting nonetheless!

Crap. Installed the stock tank and the same effect is happening. Looks like I have some obstruction in the carb inlet.
Reckon I may be able to remove the carb bottoms and see what the deal is. I was almost sure this passage was clear to all carbs while cleaning but I suppose it is possible I may have missed something.

Open up your float bowl drains and catch the output.  Anything in the flow that shouldn't be there like rust or water?  How well does fuel flow from tank to carbs to drain tubes?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

How is your inline filter set up? I had inline filters on my 550 and because of the small area I could only mount them horizontally they would fill with gas but the thing kept faltering I finally realized that for the filter to work properly it had to sit vertically.  Pulled the inline filters off and the bike ran great.
