New front brake idea

Hey All,
My local parts house guy Dave. I was asking about brake lines. He asked me if I was keeping the plitter and running thin bango's and ditching the spiltter. Running line straight from M/C to the caliper. I say you can do this. I ddint really get into the details about it but went by there today on my day off. Low and behold it is Dave's day off also.

Anyone heard of this and is it a good idea?

I don't know if it works any better than having a manifold, but both my bikes have lines that go straight from the M/C to the caliper.  In looking at the parts diagrams for the SOHC, I see that the 77 and prior bikes had a manifold while the 78 did not.  There must be a good reason why Honda ditched it (hopefully not just because it's fewer parts to worry about).

Ive seen other bikes run one hydraulic line straight to the caliper. It would be cheaper (less fittings),you would just have to tether the hose to something.

What bike are we talking about?  Dual discs?  Is it a splitter we are talking about or the block where the brake light switch is?  If it is a splitter, there is no advantage in losing it, and you will have 2 lines running along your handlebars to the master cylinder. 
For the brake light switch, Honda went to a mechanical switch in the brake handle in the later years, while earlier used a hydraulic switch in the block.  You list bikes that may have either. 
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Sorry this is on my 76/77 F hybrid. Im useing the complete 77 front end on the 76 frame and the 77 swing arm to run the comstars. The splitter is the piece on the front lower tree?

Check your master cylinder/brake lever. 

If there's a electrical connection (a 77+ master), you can either run 1 line to the splitter and then a line to each caliper OR run 2 lines direct to the caliper from the master.

If there's no electrical connection (a 76 or earlier master), the brake light is activated by a pressure switch on the tree behind the headlight bucket.  You can either run 2 lines direct from the master using a pressure switch banjo bolt (available at HELUSA) or a single line to the pressure switch and then 2 lines to the calipers.

That's my take on the situation, anyway.
