Any paint experts here?
« on: August 05, 2007, 07:04:19 PM »
One of the side effects from my recent fall was some removal of paint off my helmet. The helmet itself is OK....just a light scraping of the paint in about a 3 sq. inch area. The helmet is a solid monza red Shoei. Would anyone have any idea of the type of paint used on this (and probably lots of other) helmet? I don't know if any of the local paint shops will know the type paint or be able to match the color. Seems like they only want to sell latex wall paint.

I have about the same size hole in the shoulder of my Cortech jacket also, but I doubt that that ballistic material is fixable. Seems a shame to throw out a 200 dollar jacket for one hole.  :-\

....a great idea....but wouldn't I have to put another one in the matching position on the other side to maintain the correct balance?  ;D ;D

ANY time a helmet hits hard enough to scrape the finish off it should be replaced. i think they use gelcoat on the solid colors anyways.

Helmets are cheap enough to buy a new one.  Brains can't be replaced yet ;)

I learned the helmet lesson years ago.  I wrecked my motocrosser and barely hit my helmet (a good Shoei with Troy Lee designs).  I figured that it was just a scratch.  later that same year I lost it again over some bumps and landed a bit harder, the helmet caved and I was out.  I looked at the helmet and it caved where I hit it the first time.  I suspect that it had micro cracks which reduced the integrity of the helmet.

Be safe, not sorry.
