Push startin a suzuki 2day...
« on: August 09, 2007, 09:47:33 PM »
I went down to the creek 2day lookin for partial nudity relaxation. Without getting in the water, it was too dang hot. Saw a suzuki 600 parked by the shore with a couple helmets on the ground near it, one on its top with a few bud longnecks stickin out the top, the other on its side, both direct contact with the gravel. I guess I'll relax a little too once I put the first scratch on it but come on, toss em down on the ground?

Anyway later on as Im leaving, I see the fella and his 95 pound girlyfriend trying to get this thing push started so I offered help.

Ever offered to help someone out in good nature but from the getgo you can feel the degradation of the situation? Yeah I did too.

I gave it a couple push passes with him with no luck before starting to ask a few troubleshoot questions. He tells me he laid it down earlier and might have a float stuck. Huh. Actually, from the account of the another guy watching all this nearby, the rider stood the bike up and kicked the kickstand up and away, let go of the bars and turned around like he was going to walk away. The bike falls to the left, hitting the rider in the butt and legs and both fell down. The rider grabs the bars in a huff and heaves it back upward but didnt catch it before it took a tumble to the right. Straight up and over and took its rider with it. Sure wish I had happened along just a few earlier to see that, or had a camera with me. I dont usually like seeing troubles like that, but in this case.......

The damage? I couldnt tell. Both front t/signals were dangling, front brake lever was misshapen, rear brake lever was missing the "L" at the end where you would normally apply force, and the body work looked like the misused face of one of Michael Vicks fightin dogs. Big scuffs and gouges were abundant. I had the feeling that this had happened before.  ;D

I heard this guys mumble, or slur, something about the battery a few times. He would then reach around kind of between the seam of the seat padding and part of the bodywork and fiddle with the positive battery connection that was dangling out from within. Guess this has been a problem before for him or something. There was a second red wire ran from the same location out in parallel with the positive post wire. Im not sure if it was a jump wire connecting this mess or what but I was beginning to want away from all this rather than offer fixes. But it must have been significant to make it run because he would mess with it everytime right before he turned the key all the way left to right a few times. No, dont know why. O' the key in the ignition, it wasnt. It appeared to be a cut off piece of aluminum tube, like a crossbow bolt, shoved down through the center of where the ignition tumbler USED to be. Holy christ, I was getting the feeling like I was trying to help this guy steal it instead of start it.

The ending of this boring story is near.

We pushed his scoot bout a block to use the only incline/decline there was for momentum. Took a quick breather, watched this nimrod jiggle this wire and that aluminum rod a few times, and we're off runnin down the slight decline. This was the fastest we were going to get this bike to go where we were at so I gave it all I had this last time. Plus this was going to be my last offering of help. It sputtered a few, and ughed a few more but eventually nothin. I stopped where he stopped to catch my breath and the SOB started laughing. Laughing from frustration? No! He thought it was funny that he didnt have the ignition on right, & HE THINKS HE NEVER TURNED THE FREAKIN GAS ON IN THE 1ST PLACE.

I was thouroughly done with this bullsh!t. I told him I was done and started headin for my car a few yards away when he hollered at me. "Dude you quitin? I have to do this everytime I start it. Lets do it again." I couldnt believe that he just said that, and I cant believe he does that everytime. I just kept on walkin without turning around or saying anything else and split. What a deal that was.

So I found a picture on the net Ive included as to which bike I think it was and I was going to edit it to show red circles around the damaged parts that I noticed, but it would be much more work than worth. Instead, Ill grab the camera & go see if its still there in a minute.

Why should you care what HE has to do everytime he starts the bike?  YOU don't own his piece of junk. :)  It was nice of you to try helping him though.

I think it was more a curiosity and amazement of all his jury riggin that was goin on than anything. Ill offer all I can to a two wheeler in need, but in this case it was quickly obvious that I was over my head. I wont loose sleep over it.

Went back down there in the cager about midnite to look around and maybe drive off a little boredom, and the nite had an excitement in the air. Driving out of the hot city and dropping down in the valleys with the changing thermocline brought thick fog in areas so it was calling for a late nite/early mornin ride. Went home and suited up. It was awesome. Built up a good sweat for a while then dropped down on a few roads running along the creek. Wow, probably a 15 degree drop in areas and just enough condensation to bring out a deep shiver for a few miles then back up and out into the thicker heat. I wanted to hit the highways for some higher speed passes but my halogens need a little attention. They arent perfect but they give me a better heads up for deer by catching those blue/green eyes in the treeline.

Instead of highway, I stayed in town (kinda) and took my chances with the 16 year olds on their 1000 somethin somethin cc rockets and Joplins finest ticket writers. Stopped at the Harley shop for a while and did some mental spending. That got rather expensive so on the other side of town I did the same at the Ford truck dealership. Ever notice how much more plastic crap is ending up on these 30k trucks? Man!

Good story
Dedicated to Sgt. Howard Bruckner 1950 - 1969. KIA LONG KHANH.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

heres my last of this topic probably... further down the road are the Grand Falls. It used to be more carefree and had less legal implications for crossing the dam and all that, but its still cool at the end of a ride to sit and face the water and let the sun rise from behind you. I remember in my pre drinkin days taking lawn chairs out & sitting on the dam. Guess the more people that died doing that ruined everyone elses fun. But hey, the kid who swallows the most marbles doesnt grow up to have children of his own...  ;D

With that, Im going to bed. Been up since thursday mornin for some reason, and I still need to ready sum equipment for the Perseid shower that Ill start watching 2 nite on sum back road...  8)

There's a lot more plastic on every vehicle these days.  I was a fan of the Jeep Wrangler until the new model came out.  The interior has been covered in the stuff since the square headlights were on it.  Now it's spreading to the exterior.  I'll just save myself 50% and buy an older used model.

He does that every time he starts it?  Maybe because he's only started it once and that was when he stole it!  Nobody would treat their bike like that if it was truly theirs.

I agree.  Chrysler hasn't been good to the Wrangler.  I'm sure it was just because square headlights were in vogue at the time.  The plastic grill and front fenders on the new ones are what bother me.

I like the look of the current Vettes even with the fixed headlights.  Considering how long the Vette had flip-up headlights, they should have at least kept it as an option.

I'll bet this guy didn't pay anything for "his" bike if he treats it like that.  He either stole it or was given it and has no regard for its value.

I made the kinda flip comment when I saw how the ignition was that he should get it fixed or hidden due to our finest on patrol. He was a little defensive and said 'O I got the title with me.'

Why? Just in case he wanted an easy sell or a good trade? I dont know. I have been watchin the paper lately to see if one turned up stolen. Nothin yet... 8)
