tail light problems
« on: September 02, 2007, 10:16:29 AM »
Just purchased a lucas style led tail light and cannot get the brake light to come on .  It has two wires red and black ,the old light was three.  The brown wire goes to the red wire? The green and yellow goes to the black?  And the solid green wire goes where???
This is a 78 750 super sport and its the last piece of the puzzle so I can ride it again,  Thanks for the help in advance.

Check to see if your bulb has two filaments.  It should.  That's what the bike expects to ccontrol.
The two filaments have one side common connection.  This is must connect to the solid green.  It could be the tail light socket housing.

The brown wire goes to the low wattage filament.  Run light.

The Green/yellow wire goes the the high watt filament. Bright stop light.

The housing of the 'lucas style' tail lamp is ground. Should ground out soon as you put the bolt into the fender (if it's metal), assuming your fender is touching the frame, and you are properly grounded.

Well after going over to Sean's house we tried everything  to make the light work ,but to no avail, . So I did the only thing a person could do and thats go back to what I know. I gutted the led light and put in a regular light socket and I now have a brake light and a running light . Bad part about this is should I have read what I was buying to begin with I would have never bought it in the first place.  lesson learned!!!!!! :-[    Sorry sean.  on the bright side I got to visit Sean.  Nice carbs by the way . 8)

If it is anything associated to "Lucas the Prince of Darkness", there is no light.
