Movin' to Kentucky
« on: September 12, 2007, 11:33:46 PM »
Thats right folks, I'm packing up the family and were moving out to Kentucky.
Any of you folks living there?
What can you tell me from a riders perspective?

Thanks in advance.
I farted and made my son cry.

What part of Kentucky? I'm in the Louisville area. From a rider's perspective there are a lot of great roads in the country. Flat and straight. Super twisty with hills and everywhere in between. Lots and lots of Harley riders. What else would you like to know? How soon are you moving?

Mr Blasty,

I'm sorry/glad. Grew up there, lived there 40+ years. Different areas. In Colorado now. Where you headed? Perhaps I can provide some insight. Watch that Rushoid guy, he's a hoosier (just across the river) and a Louisville Cardinal fan but apparently a good guy! ;)

Two questions: Why on Earth were you in Todd County, and why do you say that? Or maybe I don't want to know (cue banjo)  :o

There are a lot of great roads, especially when you get out into the country.  Take a few hour ride, stop off in a small town for lunch, pick up some veggies straight from the farm and head home.  It's not as backwards as people from outside the area seem to think.  '

Like others have said, what part of the state?

Turin,

Be careful here. Rushoid is a Hoosier Cardinal fan and we both know what our Cats (finally) did to the Cards  :D  ;). Anyway Blasty, if anyone in KY asks, you bleed blue!!

There are MANY great riding roads all over the state from the flat western KY to the Appalachian Mountains in the east. Only bad thing is that it's over 400 miles from east to west.

So what's wrong with Todd county ??? I live in Muhlenberg county right next to Todd. Yea it's in the middle of nowhere, but there are some nice roads to ride on. Just watch out for deer. From what I've heard Muhlenberg county has a worse reputation, but I've only lived here for 9 years so I'm a newbie around here.

Nope, definitely Wayne.  The Wayneiac.  It's a certain redneck mentality in Kentucky.  Hate blacks, hate gays, hate Mexicans, hate Jap bikes.  And of course he rides a HD, though he loves Brit bikes for some reason...

In Todd County there is ALWAYS a 40% chance of Wayne.  ;D

Todd Co. Kentucky huh?????.......Probably will never go there......the only place strange that I have been to that might compare would have to be Chugwater,Wyoming........Holy sh!T.............I thought I was on a different planet!!!!!!!!! Me and the ex rolled into a bar while waiting for her bro-in-law & sis to arrive to go on a nearby camping trip. I walk up to the bar keep and ask for a coupla Buds. "This is a soda pop bar" he says. I look around and outa the few sittin around the bar and the dudes at the pool table.....every damn one of these freaks are drinking Pepsi's. So I pipe up....."Where could I get a beer?" Bar keep with sarcastic mouth tells me 2blocks up...package at the drug store or 40 miles the other direction ....such & such bar. Thanks mucho (useless #$%*!!!!) Then we hoof it 2 blocks to the drug store where I purchase a 6er of Bud to drink in the car. While there.....mama orders an ice-cream cone. What flavors do you have ? she asks. Vanilla!!!!!! Holy Sh!t!!!!! I thought to myself. We musta died and went to hell somewhere between Douglas and Chugwater, Wy.!!!!!!

While the Kentucky folk are all in the thread together, does anyone know of any dealerships, particularly in the Lou and Lex areas that might have old honda parts for our bikes?

Turin,

Go by Magnum Cyles on N Dixie Hwy in Louisville. Ask for Bob and tell him Drug Man sent you (seriously!). Great guy and good friend  with lots of used parts and some new aftermarket. If you go by late in the day or on Saturday take a cold 12 pack of Bud Light (his new favorite) or Old Milwaukee (his old favorite). You'll be greeted like an old friend. Plan on staying until his wife calls and reminds him he is late because someone brought beer. Tell Daniel (his son) that Drug Man said he's full of #$%*. Seriously again. Convenience store 1 block south.  502-776-2142

Thanks, I've heard them mentioned a few times, sounds like they are the place to go.  I made the mistake of moving to lexington but I'm back in town fairly often.  The bike is currently not running, but once I get it going I might run it by for a going through, just need some tune up parts right now, still trying to track down 5.5mm fuel line.

I think there is a guy in ETown (Elizabethtown) that has a yard also. I see him listing on EBay but, from his prices, he is VERY proud of his used stuff.

Bob (Magnum) does not do much mechanical himself. He has a garage next to his shop and has had independant guys working there on and off. Not sure about the current status. The last time I visited was in 3/06. Wish I could help with Lex. Went to UK but the bike was down mostly while there. Too broke and too busy.

Tell my about it!  Work + school = broke and busy.  I pulled the carbs off a week ago and haven't even had time to screw them up yet.  Thankfully my fiancee just bought an 85 rebel 250 and isn't comfortable riding yet as MSF was 3 months ago, so I just ride the short bike when I need to get to campus without a parking pass.
