Texas Newbie
« on: September 24, 2007, 05:58:48 AM »
Good morning all,

I am in the process of rebuilding my '72 CB750 and have a question for the group.

How do I open the speedometer?  It appears to be working correctly, but I need to replace the light bulbs and cannot figure out how to open it up.

Thanks,

Steve

I could not find anything in the FAQs, hence the question, but I have found the answer in a post once I searched for "speedometer".  Thanks and have a great day all.

Steve

you have to remove the chrome cover from the back. On the 72 its held on by two screws.

the bulbs are held in a rubber holder that inserts. There are two of them.

It is not neccessary to open the speedo to replace the bulbs

Welcome.

Nice to have another Texan aboard.

Thanks for all the welcomes, and thanks to kghost for the feedback.  Ok, now that I have them out, I need to figure out how to put them back in.  (The solution is not quite so obvious as it sounds).  The rubber gasket/lamp holders had hardened over the years and is now destroyed & unusable.  Any thoughts on remounting the lights in the holes?  I'm thinking good old RTV, but I'm not ready for that stage of the rebuild, so have time to get feedbback and come up with a better solution.
