In theory, Suzanne was a millionaire movie star.  In reality, she was a hooker on 'K' street in DC.  Go out and ride your bike and then come back and tell me about real performance.  As for me and my bike, today, we are going to a non-theoretical, vintage bike show.  Now understand, this is only a theory, because I haven't actually tested it, but I believe my 350F will do the 1/4 mile in about 16.5 seconds (4 seconds slower than my VF500F but 2 seconds faster than my wife's mini-van).

You do things yours way, I'll do things my way and so long as I don't profess for mine to be the best and only way, you do the same.  Basically, input at the expense of others is a blego-boost (blog + ego + boost).  I hope you're feeling superior.  My theories tell me it's a false sense.

Now I'm just a simple folk and don't get all that big city jargon but I think he just #$%* slapped ya!  ;)

To be honest I was never one for math and am actually quite impressed with what alot of you guys can do around here...having said that I am also a non-believer when it comes to all this math as there is so many variables especially when it comes to racing that you can theoretically prove best case scenarios but I find that the accuracy of these scenarios is never within an acceptable limit. (i.e. something as simple as lowering air pressure in your tire will limit acceleration by increasing drag but at the same time allows you better grip so as to prevent wheel spin).

Math can tell you something close to your optimal times, and how far away you are from it.
It can't tell you how well YOU will do, but it can tell you how far away from getting as good as you can be.
No.

The CYCLE mag article that got me into the CB750 showed their test at 12.8 seconds, 102 MPH, and STREET BIKE magazine got that K0 bike next, doing a 12.9 at the same 102 MPH.

My K1 came close to those numbers: it broke into the high 12s one night (avgas fuel, D7E plugs, 3.50 rear tire, 45 degrees full advance, stock pipes/cam/carbs, 125 mainjets, 17/48 gearing), but always flirted with 12s, very near 100 MPH at the end. I weighed only 115 lbs., then... A friend of mine had a red-hot K0 with an R/C cam and 10.5:1 (736cc) pistons, 16/54 gearing, 4.00 rear tire, ran solid 12.5s that same night. I thought I was doing pretty good against him!

My K2's drag numbers were done with 18/48 gearing, putting it into the 13.2 range pretty solidly, stock. Lower gearing got it closer to the "12" after it had 10,000 miles and a 1st overbore (740cc) done to it, but never got it into the 12s here in Colorado (6000 feet altitude). I roadraced it much, much more than drags, though, often passing 130 MPH in the process.

Quarter mile elapsed times can vary greatly between riders on same bike due to reaction time, traction, gear shifting, weight etc. Terminal speeds are fairly consistant w/ different riders.

Et's demonstrates the riders performance more than the bikes performance, while terminal speeds demonstrates the bikes performance more than the riders performance.

Cracking pic Andy and I agree with what you are saying between two riders on the same bike.
In my post earlier I invited Joshua to come up with the maths reasoning why I am slower than Chris on the same bike when Chris is allmost twice my weight.
I wasn't taking the piss Josh, I was just wondering if your maths could explain it.
The only thing in drag racing that is more or less constant is a bikes time regardles of rider over the last 8th of a mile.
Your times and terminal speeds can be all over the place but your last 8th mile times are nearly allways the same, figure that one.

You make or break your run in the first 60 feet.  A tenth on your 60' time can equal up to .5-.6 in the 1/4.  The last 1/8 is the easy part and almost always a constant because there's only 1 or 2 shifts and you're past the point where you're fighting for traction.  It's all just a matter of hangin on to the bike then.
