750F to ST4 comparison
« on: October 13, 2007, 04:28:31 PM »
Well, I've been neglecting the old 750 for the past couple of weeks.
I've put 900 miles on the Duck but decided to take the Duck Hunter out today.

The old CB though it's more top heavy is lighter to steer at slower speeds, such as
city driving. Of course this is because of the 19" front wheel and small width tire.
The Duck at slower speeds feels a bit heavy on the steering, could be because the
front tire is a 120/70/17 which is as wide as the rear tire on the F.
I also find the F to handle uneven pavement a bit more predictably,
the Duc front tire grabs groves in the road like a race tire will.

The Kerker header still sounds great on the old F too!

I've decided a fellow needs both bikes ;D

heh perhaps you should change your status to reflect the newer bike...thought you had traded the GT for the ST4?

I fully sympathize!  I've been a bit conflicted/confused since getting my Sprint ST.

The Sprint is parked now until I have money for tires.  That'll be a while; so I'm back to 650 miles/week on the ol' Honda.  Whichever bike I'm on, I get to thinking "who needs anything else?  What's better than this?"  ;D

The only solution is to have both bikes.  What am I going to do when I finally get the '75 Trident running?   ::)

I know the feeling RM, I bought that BMW K1100LT last year from a friend of mine, I really wasn't looking for another bike, and then the K0 from Andy in Long Island came along this year, and I really couldn't pass it up, ha ha!

You're right about those wide tires, it's not as noticable on my BMW, but I rode my buddys new R1200GS for a part of our 240 mile ride on Saturday, his bike is fitted with wide 17 inch "dual purpose" tires, and it took me a little while to get used to the "under-steer". Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Sold 3 the last year; 82 BMW R65LS (bought new), 48 Indian Chief, Honda GB500, and Yamaha RD60.  Oh- 4.  Down to 4 now.  The garage has an echo.  I sure miss the bikes I sold, but it's too much to keep them all up.

Mr M. I have gone out of my way to avoid riding a Ducati.  All that tasteless red everywhere.  They're too ugly.
Plus, it would just point out all my riding flaws
And be too much fun...
I'm trying to stay a little depressed here.  Gimme a break.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

2 is a good start.  When i bought my VFR in December last year i saw a HUGE difference in steering compared to the '76.  I couldn't bring myself to sell the 750 so the Wife is letting me keep both!   ;D  I know I'll pay for it later, I know...  ::)
