What are breather hoses made of?
« on: October 16, 2007, 07:38:42 PM »
The breathers on my cylinder head cover and my oil tank appear to have been made from some type of hard industrial plastic. I suspect they were not like this when they were newer.

There are three hoses; a large one from the head cover, a large one from the top of the oil tank and a smaller one from the oil tank to the crankcase. Are these supposed to be somewhat pliable? The big ones just breath, but the little one appears to carry oil. What kind of hose is that? Was it ever rubber or something like that?

An oil resistant vinyl.  They oxidize with age and become stiffer.  I just installed a new vinyl one on mine.  Here is a pic:

Where did you get the vinyl, Sparty? Is that an OEM part or did you just find vinyl hose? Is that smaller hose the same material?

Thanks.
