Cb750, F, F1, F2

Still contemplating buying the weed bike but not really sure what it is.The engine number says it's a 1977,engine is all black. What I don't know is if it's an F,F1,F2....what years apply to the different F designations?The owner says it is a mix of 2 bikes,seat is not stock and rear fender is like a K...it has clip-ons, guages are like a K model...owner said the engine is F1 but like I said serial says 1977 which is an F2?

1975(F or F0), 1976(F1). The 1977(F2) and 1978(F3) engines are black.

This from hondachopper.com (I assume these are the differences from the K model of the same year):

Differences/identifying features - CB750F1/2

New cylinder head with bigger valves (34/31mm inlet-exhaust 32/28mm), larger combustion chamber, larger carb mount rubbers, stronger cam chain, new camshaft, harder valve springs, new retainers, cotters, new pistons compression ratio 9/1. New rod big end bolts and bearings, harder clutch springs, additional fins on crankcase, larger fins on oil pan, "oil cooler" - finned plate between oil filter case and engine. Final drive 15/43 or 14/43.

Probably the easiest part to use to identify which engine it is would be the "oil cooler - finned plate between oil filter case and engine". Mine has this.

Thought I posted that your engine was a 77 F2? Then asked what was the serial number of the bike so we could determine what it is? We need that to give an accurate determination.

Upperlake has the correct info. I'll add that Honda's systems list the 75F as K0 Super Sport.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I'm still cursing the day I decided to sell my excellent 75 CB 750 merely because I liked the cosmetics of a 78 750 F and wanted to work one of those. That black engine will suck your wallet dry.

 NOW it is dawning on me why my buddy was so surprised when I waxed him on my stock motor 73cb with Hooker , K&N's (rubber ends), jets and clutch... he said he usually could beat all them CB,s..

Engine serial is CB750E 270.......so it appears to be the 1977F2 and someone  said the F engines are high maintenance? and prone to problems or was it just the 78F's that were problematic?

Couple things . . .the info from Honda Choppers mentioned earlier (bigger valves, larger combustion chamber etc) would be in reference to the motors found on the 77 and 78 supersports.  These would typically be called F2 and F3s.  The 75Fs and the 76Fs engines do not have these particular features. These Fs would typically be refered to as F0 and F1.  So the F1 should not be lumped in with the F2 as it appears to be in MrZxps post. . . . .Your 77 motor will have the same inherent strengths and weaknesses as the 78.  In particular, the exhaust side valve guides wear out quickly.

Why wouldn't you just buy my bike? By the time you invest in a weed bike, you could have been long gone on mine.

The weed bike might continue to be a weed bike..I made an offer but the owner says he has no ownership papers.I asked him to get the frame number and I could check with the
M.O.T (Canada) as to status.I don't want it if the ownership is questionable.

In our province do a search for last registered owner,..20 or 30 bux, then send him a notice by registered mail at last address MOT gives you, then when that gets returned apply for new reggy, might do a lien check as well but I dont know if it transfers with bike in those cases..

Here in California, DMV would say the same thing.  (Tax dollars at work   ::) )
What they won't tell you is that the property owner where the bike is parked can place a lien on the bike (for storage fees, for example)  And then apply for a lien sale of the bike to recover those storage fees.  The legal registered, owner is notified (by certified mail, I think) and after a certain time period, a new title is issued to the lien holder, or the purchaser of the lien sale.  Of course, if the legal owner does respond, then you can deal direct or trade title for storage fees.

Just a thought... or two...

Now the owner tells me it has been so long he forgot who he bought the bike from and it seems he wants to sign an affidavit for a lawyer that the bike is his...I left him a message that it is his problem and not mine if he wants to sell....arghhhhh and it would have been a nice project....of course after the K2 project :)

Hey beelsamin, I hear ya man! I've been through the same BS with the Licensing Office before  :D One thing I did is I bought a bike from a guy who said it was his friends... he moved... no ownership... so i bought it anyway, figuring I'd just ride it around the farm.
Anyway, years later I decided I'd take the VIN number in to the MTO and see about getting the ownership. Same deal as you, had to get the original owner to get a new ownership slip and sign the back of it and then the ownership could be transfered.
Long story short, they punched the VIN into the computer and the owners name comes up. So, I don't know if she was being nice or even if she is suppose to, she gives me his name and the town he lives in. She wouldn't give me the address, so then I did the rest with the phone book. I tracked the guy down, told him about the good resurection/restoration I wanted to do and he goes ahead and gets the ownership for me..

The other way, which I suppose could be easier is that if the guy/girl who owned the bike has passed on.. then you can get an affidavit from the guy who is selling it now.

So see if you can get the name of registered owner from the MTO and then maybe you can find him or her.
