Battery charging question?
« on: October 29, 2007, 12:32:39 PM »
Question for a '78 CB550K...

The battery that came with the bike needs charged or replaced. It's rated at 12 Volts, 12 Amps.
My charger/maintainer only has a 10 Amp and a 2 Amp setting. Can I charge the battery using one of these two settings.

The battery appears to have the right Amps/Volts for the bike, but it is NOT the correct battery in terms of fit in the battery compartment. It would be nice if I could get this battery charged and use it while I'm restoring the bike. However, I don't mind if I roach it either, as it is not the correct fit.

Any help....?
Thanks, Vince

Don't use the ten amp setting.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

For a bike battery, even 2 is on the high side but will be ok as long as the battery can vent.

Speaking of batteries I just picked up on for my SUV and Walmart was the price leader. I was wondering why there was such a price difference. Walmart has not updated their prices as of last Saturday. I was speaking to a scrap metal guy and he told me he is lucky. The price of lead is through the roof so batteries are jumping way up in price. if you think you are going to need one soon. Maybe now is the time to get one. I was gonna wait till spring to get a new battery, but I think I will get one now.
