new from IL

Hi.  I finally found a bike (1975 CB550) for a good price, free. I hope you guys don't mind a few questions right out the gate.  1). The bike has a chrome one piece automotive oil filter. Does anybody have this setup on their bike? If so, what's the brand and part number. 2). The owners manual shows the ignition switch under the gas tank, I have the switch on the handle bars, is my switch after market or did honda change it during the production run?

Welcome Greg!

Where at in IL?  I'm in the McHenry Area, and have a bunch of 550 parts available if you need them.

As for the filter, pull it off and take it to the auto parts store as you drain the oil.  Just match it up to one that is the correct size.  Terry in Australia makes the adapters as well.  If you want to go back to the stock look, I have a filter housing you are welcome too.

The switch on my '75 CB550F is mounted by the handlebars just below the gauges.  There were multiple changes to the bike by year and not all the pages got changed in the manual.

Bob, you are right, the meters running, a new battery, new air filter... I think I learned my lesson restoring an old corvette. You don't want to see pics of an old tired bike do you? I want to fix a few obvious things like a headlight dangling by the wires and try to shine up what chromes left before I attempt to post pics.

mkramer1121, I'm in Boone County. As for the filter, I took it off and went through all the filters at the local farm and fleet store. I tried an auto parts store and they just look it up on their computers and come up with the old filter element. They don't have the time to go through all the filters they have.

Hi,

Welcome from sunny Scotland, UK.

I'm just starting a 400/4 re-build/ resto. Long term tho I'm looking to have a couple of bikes and, well a corvette in my garage! Do tell, what year vette did you restore countrygreg? (Sorry folks - I know, this is a bike forum ;))
I've been longing to own a tri-power '69 for a number of years now - they're pretty damned scarce in the UK.
