750 k8 - in need of new chain!
« on: December 19, 2007, 01:06:00 PM »
So now that the snow melted long enough here in the northeast to bring the 750 k8 back to the garage, i need to change the chain over.  I've been doing a lot of research about converting to a 530 chain with new sprockets 17 / 48, or 18 / 48.  I don't care much for the "cool look" of the 630, if it runs - it's good enough for me!  It's been a few months since i've seen any posts on this subject and was wondering how some other conversions are still running as well as what chain / sprocket manufacturers are best.  Safety is my main concern, therefor i'll spend a little bit more.

Thanks in advance!

As a cheapskate and a slacker, I looked at my sprockets and they looked OK so i  bought a new 630 from LoudFastUgly. Price was good and it is less work.

I went with mawonline.com and got a 17/48 set up with a RK530 o-ringer  for around 140 clams.

The sprockets definitely need replacing, have some real big canyons in between teeth, and i'm maxed out on my adjusting screws.

I think Eldy's on the money mate, 140 bucks for a good RK 530 chain and sprockets is pretty good value for quality parts.

I just found this though, so be careful! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Agree...I just installed new 530 o-ring.  I had to go to Yamiya to get a new OEM rear sprocket.

I dig Z1 Enterprizes... They are fast and accurate.. They are always my first choice if they have what I need. Their inventory for KZ / Z1 parts is much larger than the CB parts.

I always buy my chains from kneedraggers.com - fast shipping, good service.  They can probably get sprockets for the CB or you can call up sprocket specialists.  Good luck :)

I have had good luck with cycle re cycle.  Usually get my stuff in a few days.  Just got a new chain and sprockets from them a few weeks ago for a 75 cb750f.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned Z1 Enterprises, Jeff (the owner) is a forum member here and he started stocking a SOHC4 inventory on the advice of Clyde Ikin (another forum member) and offers absolutely the best after sales service, he's a bike enthusiast and not just a business man, and has sent me small obsolete race carb parts from his own garage, for free! Top bloke, use him as a priority! ;D

excellent,  looks like z1 will work well, just need to think of what else i need for the winter tune-up.  I've never done a tune on my carbs, what do i need to replace other than float bowl gaskets?

Probably not much at all mate, the 78 carbs use "O" rings for sealing the float bowls and don't tend to leak generally, and while you could buy new needles and seats, (fuel valves) once agin, unless your carbs are flooding, I wouldn't bother.

The little seals around the air screws in front of the float bowls do tend to leak though, (I need some for my F2) so get on to Terry Quail, (just "Quail" on the SOHC4 forums) he's got a line on OEM Honda parts, and is a top bloke. Cheers, Terry. ;D
