Here is what the bike looks like so far.
« on: December 20, 2007, 03:13:16 PM »
Got my seat and my handle bars in today and this is what the bike looks like so far.  At the moment i am using the original tank but want to switch to a different one after awhile.  Still havent got my rear struts yet but they are almost done.

Want to do a bobber style bike but i like the way i sit with the clubman bars.  After looking at the seat I am not sure I like it that much with the tank.  Here is a bike that I really like.  I like the tank on this bike more than mine.  Anyone know what tank that is from?  My rear struts are something like these but with alittle more to them.

Maybe change the tank to a K tank w/ the flip up cap instead of an F tank and you'd be good to go.  Too bad the shocks don't mount waaaay back there....

Is that what tank is on the bike in that link?  If so then that is what I need to do.

Its got a different cap on it, but similar style.  Look at Proteal's 450.  I think the cap on top rather then under the lid would look better.

Ya I was looking at the 2 bikes earlier and couldnt figure out what it was and why they looked different but that is it.  Another problem I have is the front master cylinder barely fits on the bars and cant decide if it will work or if I am going to have to get master cylinder.  And I just took these pics and noticed the hose is cracked so looks like I am going to be replacing it sooner than I thought.

Are you using the stock RH switch?  If so, rid yourself of it and go with just a throttle assembly....Should give you ample space.

For some reason the link isn't working for me. Just takes me to the front My space page. huh...

Anyway, I LOVE the look of the bike so far. Very unique. As for the struts, just get some shorty shock and lowering blocks. They will drop the tail right down and and give it that swept back look that the shocks in your picture have (as well as retain a bit of suspension).

As for the MC, new lines, you're right, are definitely in order. If you've got the MC on, then I say use the stock MC. New lines can be rerouted (or custom made) and sometimes that will help with the fitment of the MC itself.

Thanks guys.  I am liking the way it is looking so far except the tank.  I want to put just a throttle only but would still like to have all the lights and the electric start.  As far as the picture I didnt even think of having to log in, so here is the pic.  This is the guy that I bought my bike from.  My rear struts are kind of like these but with alittle more to them.  They are kind of an s shape and the guy that cut them out is going to powder coat them for free so I am just waiting for them.  Anyways here is the pic.

Cool.

The seat is neat. I think the first pic with the fender had great potential.

I think the tank fits the slope of the bike. It does have a flow.

Thank you goat.  That fender is actually the rear half of the original fender that I flat blacked and turned around.  The nice thing about it is that it already has 2 bolts sticking up that I can mount my tail light to.  At first I didnt want a fender but with my ass being so close to the rear wheel that i figured it would be a good idea.

Buy this switch and a GL1000 clutch lever (solo perch).  You can then put everything on the left side, the H/L all the way off works like your kill.  I have the horn switch acting as my starter button.  I can email you the wiring for it.

Actually I think I figured out what I am going to do.  i dont know if it will work but I figured it should.  What do you think?

I am going to use this for the engine run & shut off switch/starter button. Unless I can wire it so that I dont even need the engine shut off switch?  And just use the key to shut the engine off.

And this for the turn signals.

And this throttle assembly.

I don't know if that throttle assembly will work correctly for our bikes.  You can bypass the kill switch, but I wouldn't recommend it.  Its far easier to kill it with a flip of the thumb then having to reach fort he key and turn it off.

ya I just noticed that one has the holes on one side where as ours have one on each side.  I found one that has on eon each side so I guess that is what I will use.

This one should work right?

I had one from cyclex which tightened up better to the cable but I broke it (somethin' about over torquing....)  They ahve a bunch of nice stuff for our bikes:

If you run the struts as short as the one in the last pic, you will probably put the bike down if you run over even a beer can.

Give it about another 1/2 inch just so you dont have to build a new set if ypu change tires..

Ya it is 8 1/2" from center point to center point.  The picture with the shock is around 7 1/2"

This is what I got for levers.  Figured for $20 if the shims dont work as well as I would like them then I can resell them.

If you run those lever you will have to make cables.

The lever ends are way different and the free length , than Honda cables.  Not sure if those do but later HD cables took a loop or eye end..not the crimped on slug.. Also you have to shim the throttle sleeve...as well.. then your wiring is different...

If I use these sleeves will I still have to shim them?  I figured I would just have to shim the levers.  Either way we will see how they are when they get here.  I can have my buddy make me up some cables if I need.

Also does anyone know the size of the forks?  I ordered some new headlight brackets and didnt even notice they were for a certain size.  Most of the brackets I have seen have been adjustable but these arent.  Here is a link to the brackets.

Looks like the throttle should work with the Honda sleeve.

The later Harley cable ends were a  metal loop I think.. you may see them in Barnett Tool and Engineering website.. they may sell the ends. They used to supply all kinds of cables and parts.

Great folks to deal with..

Those headlight ears are adjustable.  there is two slots on the larger piece where you can put the smaller piece in.  Also, you tighten the screw to open or close the clamp.  Your forks, if stock, are 35mm.

Ok sweet thanks.  I was alittle worried there for a bit.  Aah I just noticed the auction says up to 38 mm, so I should be good.
