Ebay acquired about 3 months back- 1976 Honda 750 K
« on: January 05, 2008, 11:22:20 AM »
Just wanted to share my new baby with you guys. Had one identical to it and only 4 numbers off on the vin a little over 20 years back. Bought it out of North Carolina from original owners grandson. Has right at 25,000 miles. Had a bad flat spot in the throttle so I rebuilt carbs, jetted it back to 105's and moved jet needle to clip to middle position. Runs much cleaner and crisper. Needle was raised one notch up causing the flat spot. Polished the chrome with 0000 steel wool and Mother's Aluminum Polish. Hope you all like and can see pictures.

Thanks, I did a lot of clean up and polishing so far. Previous owner had spent right at $1000.00 bucks on maintenance (tires, chain, rebuild caliper and master cylinder). I paid $1650.00 for it so with all he spent I feel like I got a good deal. I did replace rear grab bar and left battery sidecover ($227.00 - Ebay(had to have). Went to check timing and found a Martek 440 electronic ignition which I believe is old school period correct. Actually found some and printed info on Martek from a photobucket posting. Kinda of figured electronic when I seen the yellow wires going into aftermarket coils. Fires right up and runs great. Doesn't need anything now except reflectors for headlight ears and I have some coming. Bought oem throttle and clutch cables, some very nice stainless crimped oil lines, starter, rectifier, regulator - just to put away for spares.

SBC...beautiful bike.  Sounds to me like you did well in the $$$ department.  I really like the paint...looks clean and crisp.  I had a 1977 CB750K which was black.  I really like your colors.  Am now working on restoration of a CB750K).  Just had to have another.  Thanks for sharing the pics.

Is that a 17 inch wheel on the back?
If it is make sure you got the right sprocket carrier on it..(76 & earlier)

Yeah I never even snapped that the wheel had been changed. I am taking that it is supposed to be an 18" correct? I noticed the back tire looked kind of beefy looking and when I bought it off of Ebay I originally thought it was the 16" Harley wheel. When I got it home I noticed it wasn't a 16" and had assumed it was factory. I have been away from these bikes for over 20 years. I have owned around 20 different bikes (5 -750K's) most being Hondas and an old KZ 900 Kawasaki. My neighbor gave me a complete rolling chassis only (1973) that I took the complete front end, both wheels, rear swingarm, and headlight bucket off of for spare parts. I think he was going to throw the frame away, but I still have it in my garage also. Hate to cut up or throw away a good frame  to these old bikes. Was going to cut spokes out of rear wheel and have hub laced to a 16" wheel, but I think I will leave it like it is. It does have new sprockets on it also, but I think they left the metal cover off of the outside of the sprocket as my 73 wheel has one on it.

Great looking bike!

The wheel does look like it might be a 17.  I have a 16 and am going back to 18.

Yeah the wheel is a 17" and I didn't even know it. Kind of glad though as I had wanted the 16", but I will keep this 17" on it. Hey GammaFlat I need that emblem in your picture. I did find a new emblem on Ebay for the left side, but I still need the correct one for the right side. The right side has the earlier script type on it and I have been watching Ebay for nos piece. Found repros, but I actually got the new nos one for cheaper than the repro.

The one in my hand is original with "shortened" (read broken) pegs.  I currently need one as well :( ...and one amber badge.  I am not gonna be too picky about "perfectly original"... in other words, I'd take the repro parts if they look ok.

Did I tell you that's a great color on your bike?   ;D

No, but you did now. Thanks and the color is Antares Red (factory). Bought my nos emblem off of Ebay for $31.00 (delivered) and repros from the oldbikebarn.com are now $45.00. Should have gotten one when they were $34.00 I believe. Oh well I will be watching Ebay for another new one.

I took them billboard emblems off and switched to 72 style..chrome script.. I think they are so much cleaner looking...

17 in wheel came out on 77/78 which had  a longer sprocket shaft on the motor and wider sprocket carrier..so if they kept the carrier in that wheel and changed the sprocket..it will be running offset..dont ask me how I found that out!!

I did win a bet on that after I sold a 77 engine to a buddy and told him shaft was longer.. he was so pissed he split the cases and changed shaft!!.. could have made spacers..or changed carriers.

Nice clean bike BTW..

Exhaust is a Jardine 4-1. Previous owner said it was about 15 years old.
