modified swingarm
« on: January 10, 2008, 07:16:54 AM »

Is one of you have ever modified a swingarm(cb750) to accept shocks with eye on bottom instead
of clevis?

I found a pretty good deal on shocks but that's my only problem there's eyes on both end :(

No but it would be relatively easy. I would study a few mounts on other arms and try to build similar  mounts..

You will have a great selection of shocks then....

I am not so sure. Any mfg that still makes shocks for old twin shock bikes makes both clevis end and eyelet shocks. Plenty of bikes use clevis end shocks (DOHC hondas, GS series Suzukis, etc).

Clevis end shocks are still relativley easy to get a hold of, and there are still twin shock bikes made today that use clevis ended shocks. If you check the yahoo japan auctions you will see a lot of new cheap shocks with clevis ends.

Works, Hagon, Ikon, Boge, Ohlins all make clevis ended shocks just to name a few.

I did it...have gl1100 air shocks on my CB750F...fairly straight forward...just a couple of tack welds on my original mounts, grind em off.  weld on new brackets....just a hint...make sure that the new bracket sits flush against the inside edge of axle plate on swingarm.....otherwise left side shock gets into the chain guard...I am minus one orginal chrome F chain Guard.  Matt

Doing this also lets you have the option of running other lengths as you can put the new bracket where you see fit..sometimes being able to go back to original or change back and forth..

I'd just build an H shaped steel bracket, bolt it to the swing arm and bolt the shock to it. It would be laid down and your lower shock mount would be an inch or so rearwards.

Bolt it to the original shock mount on the swing arm. Kind of like lowering blocks for a shock with a eye. All the bolts on that end of the shock would still be in a double shear configuration.  Jbird 8)
