cb 550---Anybody know offhand the size of the rear axle nut?
« on: January 23, 2010, 09:52:53 AM »
I dont have a socket big enough to torque down the rear axel nut and I dont feel like buying a whole set.  any idea how large that nut is? I looked in the parts manual and on motogrid's website and the size wasn't listed.

The stock toolbag wrench is easy to use & prevents overtorquing.. six point too..
Not sure if Honda still sells them, but, I cant see them being  much over 10 bux used.

Over tightening is pretty hard on adjusters and such..

Well, if it's not tight, why not just take it in with you and size it up?  :) Or, if it's something that I need to take off, I put an adjustable wrench on it and then measure that with a tape or in relation to another wrench size.

So, what size was it then?  :)

not sure I just hand tightened for now cause I was busy with other things.  i'll pull it off this week and bring it to the store. if what bk0931 says is true than it should be a 27mm.

The thread is 18 mm. He wanted to know what size socket is needed for the nut. That's 26 mm.

Sorry, the 550F2 and K3 have a smaller nut 24mm or even 22mm.

1976 550 F & K are both 26mm. I use a 1 inch wrench. It's tight but it works.
