oil line re-do
« on: March 04, 2008, 04:31:23 PM »
i have 34 year old oil lines and theyre getting really ratty looking. when re-doing them can i use a typical hose clamp to fasten the new lines down? i have some with the stainless cover that makes them look like threaded fittings. as far as i can tell there isnt alot of pressure in the oil lines toand from the tank.

I posted these down below for sale that I bought for my 76 750. I paid $125 and I figure $15 shipping equals $140.00 if anyone is interested. I never used them and the ends have been beadblasted and clearcoated. Email is keller4u@aim.com

Sorry there mate I didn't intend to hijack your thread and didn't think I was doing so. Just thought I would offer them as I won't be needing them. On second thought though I don't believe I would be selling them to a mate anyways.

All you need is  hose clamps and 1/2 inch oil line and you are in bussiness. Did my bike and a few others.

The supply line is gravity-fed, so no real pressure there, right?

The return line is pressurized by the scavenge side of the oil pump.  The scavenge rotor is smaller and this generates less pressure than the supply side, and teh return oil path is relatively unrestricted, so I'd guess your max pressure in the return would be half or less of your oil gallery pressure.

Seen many oil lines re-done with standard hose clamps and also the fancy covered ones.  I'd guess you're fine so long as you use wide enough clamps, properly sized hose, and your ends are in good shape.

cool, i'm tired of seeping oil lines, and with all the polished covers and painted cases i now have, oil leaks are not acceptable.

Actually the scavange pump is bigger, but as there are, or shouldnt be, any restrictions in the line you should be ok. Check the clip tightness when hot as the pipe will go more flexible and slippy with heat
