Leaking Archaeology

The water pump on my 1930 Model A Ford has been
leaking since I got the car in 1962.
I bought a new pump in 1985, but didn't put it on until last week
on account of it didn't look original.
The "new" one also leaks.--That's progress, I guess.

I thought you said you got that car in 1932.?  ;)


From the looks of it you could probably pack it your self and stop the leaking.
It doesn't have an adjustable gland nut by chance? Is that a grease fitting?

The knurled piece is threaded and tightens down on the graphite packing.
Threads on the original are stripped--2--zerk (sp?) fittings also.

After that train runs over you, it probably won't matter anymore, anyway.

(slow train- looks like you still have time to get out of the way  :o )

the new one leaks because the seals/gaskets are dried up,try soaking the pump in antifreeze overnight and see if they swell back up.

had the leak for 44yrs
had the pump for 23yrs
man o man, you are just full of action
sorry it didn't fix it maybe the new pump dryrotted?
