RJ Engineering muffler
« on: February 28, 2008, 04:04:01 PM »
Anyone ever heard of a company called RJ Engineering? They make the aftermarket muffler that somehow found its way onto my CB550 before it found its way to me. Thinking of replacing for something a little shorter and louder (in SF you want to be heard), but don't want to junk something good.

Thanks,
J

I've not heard of RJ Engineering.  Are you certain that it isn't RC Engineering?  I had a RC Engineering on my 1977 750K for a while.  It was a good system, but the megaphone canister rusted out.  FYI, if you don't know, RC is the initials of Russ Collins, a Honda drag racer in the 70's, now making fuel injection systems for motorcycles.

Oh yeah, will you look at that. That's a C, not a J.

I checked the RC Engineering website, and it's the same logo. Yes, I have an RC Engineering Muffler. So I guess it's a good piece then?

I was very satisfied with mine, other than the rust hole in the megaphone canister.  That could have been my fault because it only rusted where I had some plastic or rubber melted on it somehow by accident.  The header pipes were of good quality.  The only issue I found was with the header pipes collector being a little low to the ground, they were drag pipes afterall, so foot peg dragging cornering was unwise.

As a note, RC Engineering doesn't make them anymore so you have a collectors item.
