Can you post pictures?

No worries Raul, I should have taken some pics of the seat from the moment I removed the cover, it would have been a good "before and after" thing, I'll do that instead with the K2 seat, as it's in a similar condition. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ok, so this is where I'm at right now, after that rust fix stuff was dry I washed off the excess, then let it dry again, then "etch primed the seat base with some high zinc etch primer, let that dry, then sprayed on some satin chassis paint, which looks close enough to the factory finish.

As you can see from the pics, the seat base is in pretty bad condition, but hey, it's lasted 35 years now, so with the sandblasting, etch priming and painting, it's gotta be good for at least another, er, three months until the seat that Tom sent me arrives? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Sounds like enough paint to see it into the next century.  ;D

Just kidding, looks good!

Ok, so it was another fine day here in Oz, so after dropping off my CB750 hub and Harley rim to be laced together, picking up some 6061 T6 alloy bar for more oil cooler adapters, and a visit to my local "Bunnings" hardware store, I went out the garage to do some more to the K1 seat.

As you can see in the pics, I used the spray adhesive to stick the 3mm shiny foam sheet to the base, then glued the base to the foam block, the idea of course was to provide a breatheable barrier, to stop any more "dandruff" falling through the pressed holes in the seat base, should John Bakers foam sealing treatment (PVA glue and water, see previous posts) prove to be short lived.

Once that was dry, I used some more of the stuff to seal the whole foam pad, once again to provide a dandruff barrier, and also to cover up and take the edges off some faults in the pad. When this was dry, I pulled the aftermarket cover (that Clyde Ikin sent me) over the pad, noting that it was now a much tighter fit than previously which was good because I was concerned that the pad had "shrunk" after 35 years of abuse.

I found some "chrome" plastic beading that I bought on Ebay years ago, and ran it around the edge of the seat base as protection against theĀ  sharp edges of the seat base cutting through the vinyl, then just pulled the cover into place ensuring that it was even(ish) all the way around. I applied some brush-on contact adhesive to the insides of the base and an inch or so all around the bottom insides of the seat cover, and then gave it a few minutes to go from wet to "tacky". Once tacky, I (with my heart in my mouth at this stage, as contact adhesive doesn't give you a second chance) carefully stretched the cover over the base.

Once I was game to take a look, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looks! I haven't fitted the stainless steel trim strips yet, I'll do that tomorrow, and I'll need to get a new strap made and have the buckles rechromed, but all in all, I'm happy with the result. What do ya reckon men? (and ladies, of courseĀ  :-*D) Cheers, Terry. ;D

MECHANICAL DANDRUFF in CB 750 seats.
"Crabs" as in Nautical version of the above.

Terry.
Your seat is about to disintergrate.
I have one that did exactly the same Browny yellowy #$%* every where and as hard as a camels rump.

I unfortunately let it go too far The secret is pull the foam out gently wrap it in cling wrap and then make a mold from  plaster and then buy some foam packs from the Seat Foam suplier and it when mixed will form to the mold at the correct memory which GOOD foams have.
There is a good supplier in Newcastle NSW .
I nearly made a metal mold with a fibre glass insert so as to get the correct shape but you must have a hinged exit part , nearly always the pan section.
This could be a good business in Australia I do not have a old foam but David Silver Spares do have them I believe.
Happy 06 mate.
The new front whel is finished even put new bearings in too.
All new.
Cheers
Dave

Thanks Dave, but I don't think I'll bother, I've got another seat coming if this one "disintegrates", although it was still quite soft and pliable, I thought? I'll wait until it's broken before I fix it, just for a change, ha ha! Cheers, Happy New Year mate, Terry. ;D
