Car alarm help!!!!!!!
« on: March 10, 2008, 07:20:24 AM »
OK, this is just plain weird.........
I have a 2001 Olds Alero.
Sunday morning while parked at the house, the panic alarm starts going off.
Thinking I had accidentally hit the button, I pull the keys out of my jacket and turn it off.
5 minutes later, it happens again.
Thinking it may be a faulty remote, I took the battery out of it - the alarm still goes off.
After fooling with this for an hour, I disconnect the battery.
The really weird thing is, this ONLY happens at home!
Car is at work now, and no problems!
Any ideas what may be causing it?
BTW, it's not an aftermarket alarm - just the stock GM keyless entry system.
Help me, I'm going nuts!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there a second, back-up remote somewhere in the house??

If there is, it's in a box somewhere, untouched for many years.........

Just thought it might be the culprit since the vicinity of your home seems to be key (no pun intended ;D).

Sounds like a bad sensor.  I once had a bad hood pin switch that would trip the alarm at random, but only on cold nights and when it got just the right vibration, like medium sized airplanes flying overhead.  Greater and lessor vibrations didn't set it off.   ??? Turned out to be some corrosion in the pin switch.

Those damn alarms are really annoying, aren't they. Why, I remember riding down Hwy 1 & 101 on the CA coast in August. I couldn't believe how many paranoid car owners there were or should I say potential thieves. I'd bet that we encountered well over 100 alarms. It was really hard to hear my nice sounding Harley's beautiful exhaust tone over all those noisy car alarms.  ;D  ;D  ;D

Actually my Acura Legend had a similar problem (thankfully it didn't go off because of high decibels). Turned out it had to do with part of the locking mechanism in the driver's door. Strange but true.

What a yarn spinner!  We all know Harley's are louder than car alarms... and about as welcome.   ;D ;D

TT,

Hope I didn't get yours! It was kinda funny after a while. If the Harley didn't set them off the VTX1800 did.

So, last night I left the battery connected, thinking that if it went off, I would start canvassing the neighbors to see if they had any new electronics and........

It didn't go off at all.

Hmmmmmmm..........
