Valve spring apprehension
« on: April 19, 2008, 06:28:41 PM »
Looking at my valve springs, there appears to be coils closer to each other towards the bottom.  The "closer coils" are supposed to go toward the guide right?  I ask because one sprung out and I got to looking at it....

I'm pretty sure it is tighter coils towards the head - but I've been known to be wrong more than once as well... :)

tighter coils means more resistance at that end - I believe both inner and outer springs should face the same way...

Yes- Honda Common Service manual indicates

"For valve springs with varying pitch, install the valve springs with the narrow pitch end facing down" Section 9-14.
