My Long Running Super Hawk (305) Project
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:13:46 AM »
Just had to make a decision this past weekend concerning 2 of my Projects that were in line waiting for attention. You see I have this 63' CB77 305 Super Hawk that has had a CA (Dream) motor put in it by a P.O. and I wanted to get an actual CB motor to put back in it and build the bike up. Due to the cost of a whole motor AND the shipping costs, I looked for other alternatives. I have managed to get some decent deals last year and ended up with a CB77 crankcase, crankshaft, a Type I points plate assy., a Type I points cover, coils, and a few other parts for decent prices. I was still missing pistons, speedometer/tach combination gauge, the headlight shell for it, carburetors, seat, gastank panels and the Super front fender. I also had gotten a 63' CL72 Scrambler some time back, with hopes of building IT up too! A buddy, who I've had quite a few dealings with, had been wanting the CL72 if I decided not to build it. Finally, he offered me a brand new set of Honda CB77 pistons, one of those speedo/tach units with a nearly new headlight shell, cables, gaskets, a set of carbs for my 80' CB750K, a bore job to fit those pistons to the CB77 cylinder and go through the process (and cost) to get me a title for my 80' 750. Well, I finally gave in and did it. He picked up the Scrambler Saturday and the CB77 cylinder. He called me Sunday to tell me that the pistons he had, fit my cylinder perfectly! :o All I need to is run a hone through the cylinders AND, come to find out, the cylinder is STANDARD bore! :o He even wants to build the CB77 motor, while I'm getting to where I can concentrate on my 74' CB450K7! He and I have know each other for about 10 years and have done quite a bit for each other during that time. Now, that's not to say any less of the folks here, who have helped me either. I don' want to go naming names cause, there are several who have helped by the info (or advice), sold me parts for really decent prices, given me parts (with me paying shipping) and even given me parts (and not even letting me pay the shipping)! 8)
And I appreciate ALL of those who have done any of these things. ;)

The bikes that I'm talking about are below:

The 63' CL72 Scrambler (this is the one I traded off)

        The 63' CB77 Super Hawk

        The 74' CB450K7

Great news...

Go Bill GO!

I'm gonna give it a heck of a shot Tim! ;)  The 450 should make noticeable progress before the Super Hawk. The SL350K0 will probably be a while doing it too! Here pretty soon, I should be able to do an assessment on the 450, so I can get an idea of what I'm gonna need for it and then I'll start a thread on it, when I'm ready to get on with it. The 77' CB550K "Cafe Style" project will be taking a back seat to those mentioned, which will also give me time to attempt to gather up & put aside the needed parts for it.

                                   Later on, Bill :) ;)

Good one Bill, you may need to start editing that signature of yours.

Already taken care of Malcolm. Although I may get rid of the 73' RD350 also and that one is still listed there. And I hope to move the sidecar to the 750A. So far, the 63' CL72 is the only one to leave. When I start doing 450 projects, 1 or 2 of those in my signature, may become parts supplies for "Projects" and THAT too will narrow the list down some. ;)

                                       Take care, Bill :) ;)

I'd love the RD Bill or a 450 but sadly 4,000 miles away is too far.

I hear ya Malcolm, I usually see bikes that I'd like to have and sometimes could get, IF it wasn't so far away. :-\

Most everything I've got, will require a good amount of works and parts too! Now, the RD needs crankshaft seals & some carb work, to make it a rider (lots of detail work and a nicer set of exhausts for a really sharp bike).
