I value my head, i cant grow another, so i bought the best i could afford at the time.
I`m on a tight budget and am trying to spend as little as i can while still keeping things safe and legal, but i think SWMBO might have something to say about spending for something like that :D

I think in the two years i have been back riding i have probably spent close to a grand for gear thus far. This is including my jacket, both my bell and my new HJC helmets, my new alpinestar gloves, and a pair of kodiak work boots. The Kodiaks are worn out now from being pressed into service when i was a tire tech so i have been wearing my Cat hiking shoes for now. But next up will be some Icon boots. Ack...me thinks we have gone off onto a hijack of the original thread here..

No hijack at all...all this gear talk is good. The more reviews of gear the better!

heres that review from my first day of riding with the Alpine stars andy...you may wish to consider XLs to be on the safe side since they do have a bit of a snug fit...i had ordered XXXLs and they fit pretty snug to my hands..but i suspect after a few miles of use especially in warmer weather they will soften up and stretch a bit to fit my hands where the leather pulls them tight against them right now.

hey thanks for that Darkrider. I ended up ordering the Fieldsheer Phantom gloves:

http://www.bikebandit.com/product/6134

along with a new Shoei visor :-)

Anyway I chose these after much reading here in this thread and also looking around and decided I liked the style, the velcro cuff strap around the wrist, the protection and style (black). We`ll see what they are like when they arrive. I think all the gloves shown in this thread are very good and if these ones dont cut it Ill be trying the Icons or Alpinstars next.

Now I need to find out more info about sizing for an AGV STINGER LEATHER jacket...they look very nice and basic.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/39/7016/ITEM/AGV-Sport-Stinger-Leather-Jacket.aspx

Thanks for all the reviews. Ill post mine when the gloves come in.

cheers

Those look like a great glove as well andy. As i said earlier..im thinking a lot of the stiffness in the alpinestars came from it being cold for one and the fact i need to break them in secondly..seems they loosen up a lil more each time i pull them on so thats encouraging.

Well i guess i need to see if i can get these gloves exchanged for a new pair..the velcro on the wrist strap seperated from the rubber tab..from the looks of it the tab had not adheared well so im thinking i probably got a defective pair. Not a major thing since i do have my Dakota work gloves to wear in the colder weather. If i get a chance to take them back today i should have a new pair by thursday.

Thats too bad Darkrider...I hope its just a one off and not something more common. A good pair of gloves should last for years. Keep us updated on how the return process goes -where did you buy them? I used BikeBandit this time as also got the Shoei shield and a couple of cables at the same time. In the past they have been quick to deliver.

ordered them from the Parts Canada catalogue at a local motorcycle dealer. So i shouldnt really have issues. Thats actually the second time i had issues with something from parts Canada..the first time was the first set of signal lights i had ordered for the Interceptor...they melted after about 10 min of idling for the bikes warm up after they were installed. (was getting an oil change done at the same time)

Good way of looking at it. Im getting the same gloves again since they fit nice after a few hours of wearing them. So other then the tab problem i liked the gloves. Pretty safe to assume i will be getting more alpinestars gear in the future.

I finally went for the Fieldhsheer Phantom gloves from Bikebandit.com at ~$35. I have large hands so I got the XL size. Its a tight fit when new but after 2 weeks of wearing them everyday they are becoming more comfortable. I would probably have gone for the XXL if ordering again. Nevertheless once they are on, comfortable enough although at the end of the index finger you can feel the seam  :-\...but getting used to this.

Anyway here are the gloves on....

Would I buy them again? Mmmm not sure. These are good enough but I think next time Ill follow Heffays advice and only buy gloves you can try on in the shop!

Guess the tab thing isnt a one off...the new pair did it as well...but this time the gloves are properly broken in..so im probably gonna look into some better adhesive to repair the damaged tab.

what im probably gonna do is get some sort of glue..not sure what yet and reglue the tab. Im thinking it may just be poor adheasive. Not sure what im going to use just yet some have suggested super glue.

I wouldnt use superglue, its not very flexible and will ruin the glove area you use it on, i`d go with a decent contact adhesive.

dito on the contact glue, I've used it in in saddle building and it works great with leather.
You can get it at most any building supply or stop by your local upholstery shop and have them do it.

I use a pair of tan work gloves from Fleet Farm.  Thick leather, good fit, $20.  I can even grab a hot exhaust and bolt it back onto the header with these gloves.  Don't ask how I know that.  :-[

What are they lacking?  They are heavy and my hands get warm.  Frankly I could care less, but that may change if I find a nice light weight set of gloves that are durable.  The problem is I find it hard to part with $50+ for gloves when my work gloves do the same job.

Yep, I am a cheap bass turd.  ;)

There is a saddle building shop a couple blocks from my place..i think i may just take the gloves there and see what they suggest...whats ironic is the fact that the saddle shop is inside the local honda dealer...kinda handy..i can just wander around the dealer while they repair the glove..win win situation there lol

cleveland, there is nothing wrong with work gloves. They will do just as well as any riding glove other than maybe all the kevlar junk on the knuckles. Hell I got my glove from harbor freight for $12 and they have worked great so far. So separating tabs on my gloves!

Darkrider, why dont you just sew the tab back on? I mean even a guy can do it. Some heavy thread and a needle and 5 minutes.

The Fieldsheer gloves I bought (see above) are slowly falling apart after about month of use. The velcro tab came off after two weeks and now this weekend I notice the stiching between thumb and forefinger is also coming away. Would not buy these gloves again!

Instead this weekend, being 94F I was passing Motomkt, Acton MA, stopped in an tried on Rev`it Summer gloves. Fit very well and sturdy construction. I bought a set. Wore them riding away from the  shop. Pricier but service was good and glove fits very well. Any issues with this glove and Ill be taking it back to the shop (as opposed to shipping it back to an online store). Tight fit so far but Im hoping they brake in. Pics to follow at some point.

cheers
Andy

Pricier

Please define "pricier."

Fieldsheer gloves - $35

Rev`it summer gloves - $80

Bought in a moment of madness but Im hoping they are worth it. I saw a set of Held gloves for $110 which fitted amazingly....cant quite justify that on what I earn. Mine are this model but my palm is different so perhaps these are last years model...

Hope this helps!
