Almost on the road...
« on: August 12, 2005, 05:41:28 AM »
I'm new to the forum so here's the background.  Last fall I got a ring from my brother about a bike he had sitting in his front yard rotting.  A friend had let him have it, if he could get it started.  Having absolutely no mechanical know-how, my brother basically broke the clutch cover and gave up.  Enter my chance.  I got to his house and saw a 78 CB750K in rough condition.  Rear wheel was rusted in place, pipes were about to fall off, but the engine had great compression.  Well, almost a year and several pints of blood, sweat and beer later I got her started once again, but just barely.  I've chopped, grinded, welded and redone so much to this machine that I can't wait to get her in the company of some people who truely appreciate the Honda 4s in all their glory, but there's still work to be done.  Right now I'm having one hell or a time getting the forward controls working.  Anything customized to this extreme makes it difficult to get the finer items just right, but any suggestions?  I've got a website from the first generation of chops made, but here's a pic of the most recent frame set-up.  Not conventional, but who wants that anyway?

Here's hoping to see you on the highway soon.

The frame is my creation.  I taught myself to weld over the past 8 months using my little Craftsman wire feed welder I picked up from Sears for $200.  I'm still waiting to see how the first few hard bumps handle.....

Had to post the latest pic.  Should get a test ride in this weekend if all goes according to plan.  I think that has happened to someone, somewhere, sometime.

They were definately a little suspect, but I've put reinforcement plates since that pic.  I'm hoping to get some new pics this weekend to post.  Might even get a test ride in the parking lot across the street to see if she hold up.  Here's hoping...

you know, they never break on test rides. They brake when you're riding alone 55 km from nearest civilisation.. :D

I'm planning on hitting any pot hole I can and maybe even a few speed bumps on the test ride.  Then I'll be going to my chiropractor for a few days.  If nothing breaks I'll try around town rides for a while before getting too far from home.  Not thinking I'll get a ride more than 20 miles from town in for at least a month just to be sure.
