750 gas tank / petcock .. <= '74 ... >= '75
« on: April 04, 2008, 01:42:46 PM »
Just down the street a guy had a 750 tank for sale... nice .. and cheap!

Seeing as my tank ('75 750 K5) looks like one of Frankensteins early prototypes.. I grabbed it. Turns out it's from a '74 or earlier year 750.

My '75 has the single barrel style petcock on the tank whereas this one must be '74 or earlier as it has the older style petcock orifice. (three holds... two outside ones threaded)

So my questions.....
Will this tank even fit on my bike? (haven't tried it yet)

And ... anybody got an old petcock out there they can spare? Cheap.. or trade maybe? (can't believe how expensive these little buggers are!)

Thanks!

Yes it will fit on your bike and yes you can use it with the current petcock. The two outlets were one for carb 1 & 2 and the other outlet for carb #3 and #4. Easy enough.

cheers

Hmmm .. just realized that the petcock for the other tank is on the right side ... on my k5 it's on the left.

And I think you misunderstood my question .. or maybe I misunderstood your answer...

But these sure don't look like they are interchangable....

... like my K5

... and what I think I need ...

What he meant,I think, is yes the tank will fit your bike but you will need the early petcock, also the 2 pipes on the early one go 1 to 1 & 2 and the other to 3 & 4 carbs, some later ones have only 1 outlet ant a "T" piece in the pipe,
Petcocks were £19 at Dave Silver and if you fit one DONT FORGET the sealing washers under the mounting screws or gas will run through to the carbs all the time!
