New in Indiana
« on: April 11, 2008, 10:02:49 AM »
Hello.  I signed up here quite a while ago, but never posted an intro or anything.  I'm in northeast Indiana and have 1978 CB550.  I also have 3 other 550s, but none of them run.  I have a question about the seat on the 78.  Is there a way to tell for sure if it is the correct seat?  It seems like it's a little too long or mounted too far forward.  It rubs on the tank and is nearly imopossible to get it all the way down.

Thanks
--Jason

The seats for the 77-78 models are different from all the rest of the Cb550s due, in part, to the larger tank.

The shape of the back end is how a 78 seat it is identified.  (which is not in your pictures)

However, I'd guess from your picture, that either your tank is not mounted forward enough, or you have an earlier 74-76 K seat that only mates properly with the smaller tank on those models.

Cheers,

Thanks.  I didn't realize the 78s had larger tanks.  I'll start looking for the correct seat, or try to put an older tank on it.

I'm south of Fort Wayne, between Bluffton and Markle.

I am sure you know where D&A Classic Motorcycle Salvage is.  Dave may have the seat or tank that wil fit.

Yes, south of Decatur at the intersection of Salem Road and 33 south of town.  I you are heading toward Ohio, it is on the Right side of the road.  The place is WELL worth the visit even if you don't need anything.  Dave has fifty or so bikes, many of them Honda Fours, in very good condition in his display area, plus many many many parts.
