steering lock removal, '79 650

Sorry, this may be dumb  ::)

I'm guessing that to get the lock out of the head tube (prior to blasting/plating/painting the frame) I have to drill/grind/file the brass head off the pin in picture below? This then releases the washer that's holding the lock in. Or am I missing something really obvious (it's been known  :D )

You also need the key or you have to drill the barrel and get a new lock!

Yes, I found that one out, if you don't have the key don't bother drilling out the brass head, I did only to find out I couldn't get the barrel out. It's now powder coated in.

Strange! Mine came out without a fight once I put a small drill down the keyhole and turned it with a screwdriver I got a new one for 14 quid DSS.

Well I don't have a key, so I'll be going for the drill it out option as Biffta. Not a lot to lose as it's imoperable currently.

Job done chaps. Brass pin came out easy enough with a small screwdriver under the washer a little bit each side until there was enough to grip the head with pliers. I drilled/broke up the barrel after trying to be 'delicate' with it for a while. Sorted, thanks to all.
