Hey I'm in on this. :)
I might have a list for my Wing, while at this little gathering. :)
I say we start with the valves and go from there.

yea... thanks guys... i'll be working on the bike this weekend.

gordon?  wanna come help too?

I might be able to stop by after work.

And tell Mad Dog to sign up on this website for himself, already! ::)

He is on here just can't remember his info. he was username Maddog.

It run's very smooth at idle. Has good power at low speeds.
I haven't been able to check much out to the engine. It was making a racket and found a bum chain and the front sprocket bots almost out hitting the case. I got him safe to ride and just need to figure out the bogging.
Could just be a bad gas cap not venting.

I don't know.  Venting gas is one thing I don't think Mad Dog has any problem with! ::) ;D

That has been awhile too Heffay.   Paul sent you a pm with my cell #.   I'll be on my 650 so we can swap parts if needed.  Wont need bug spray though as its smoking.

If this was happening today I wouldn't be joining in the fun, since I'm going to work at 4am tomorrow.  You can bet I'll be nice and chipper, too, when I show up at your place after very little sleep and a ten hour work day. ;D

Happy 4:20!!!!! :) :) :)

Just got off the phone with Mark. It was running crappy about half way home. Didn't want to mess with it so we took out the filter and see how it would be on his way to work today.
He said little after on the highway it all of a sudden was a new bike.
 He is very happy.

Must of been when the tank got flipped and some sediment got moved around. Maybe my guess or just plan old bad gas.

Mark changed it befrore the ride up and said not much different. Terry changed fuel caps the last few miles of the trip that wasnt it. all valves where really close or within spec. fuel tank got flipped over for a min as an inspection was being done. Maybe it was just crap settled into the petcock filter or something.

all valves where really close or within spec.

no they weren't!
there was no play on a number of them.

i think we should re-jet it... seems to need to breath more considering the air filter cover "mod".  (meaning deletion)
it ran even better before a new filter was put back on.

we also changed the plugs.  they were sooty, for the most part

the bike ran amazingly well in town... i never got over 30 though.

so... is it an A+ in maddog's book now or do we need to make some finishing touches?

paul... don't admit... just say you didn't check all of the valves, personally.   ;)

so, runs better?  or just back the way it was before jerry dumped gas all over my pristine garage carpet?!   ;D

OK, so it is/was running rich. I tried an old trick to help lean it out some by removing a few drops of gas considering the gas cap musta had a leaky seal  ;) Besides, I think those few drops of gasoline mighta actually cleaned that pristine carpet.

It was running rich WITHOUT an air cleaner AND going from sea level to 5000 ft. I'd start by lowering the mains 1 size for the altitude and another size for installing an air cleaner which really needs to be done. Performance and mileage will improve.

Does the 650 with CV carbs use the same jets as a 750? Paul, why don't you and Mad Dog drop a float bowl and check out the size of the mains and report back?! We ain't stopping at no stinkin valve adjustment!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Yes the CV carbs on cb650's use the same main jets as a 750.
