Topic: my cb650 cafe project

a bit of both really, i really liked the look on other bikes so i thought id try it. it does say its supposed to improve horsepower, but i dont think it will make that much difference.
and yes its the first bike ive wrapped, wasnt that hard but some advice for you if your gona do it
1) do it outside, the fibreglass strands get everywhere!! and i mean everywhere!
2) be prepared to itch constantly once you finished until you have a shower!
3) and clamp the top where you start with a jubilee clip or use the locktie thay give you befroe you start wrapping
4) over lap the wrapp about half an inch on every turn.

oh and i painted it with normal VHT exhaust pipe paint.
i dont mind asking questions, others have answered questions for me on here so im happy to give some knowledge back, not that iv got much!

andy 750, the shocks were indeed another ebay find, i dont know what make they dont have anything on them. i was watching some a few months earlier and they went for about £130(more than i wanted to pay) so i let them go.
and a couple of months later another set turned up, 365mm eye to eye and you can change the bottom mount to a fork type or keep the eyelet.  i think i got the second set for £70.
i searched for rear shocks and ad streetfighter or honda to the keywords.

They look something like ZRX shocks if that helps

i dont think they are zxr shocks coz they are ohlins shocks i think and these most definately are not!
anyway im nearly finished with the project, have just got some little bits to finsh off and il get some more pics up.

The ZRX I had came with KYB piggyback shocks from the factory.
I wish they had Ohlins.

The bike looks great.  I especially like the headlights and how they fit with the speedo and tach.  My only critique would be the painted carbs.  Is there a story behind that color of orange?

Looks more red on my monitor.  It gives a nice splash of color to the subtler navy and silver on the rest of the bike.

the carbs are a sort of red/sort of orange, they are more orange compared to the front discs but more red if you look at them in the flesh! might do them in the same colour as the discs. some people dont like them but i do!

That is a good look'n bike!  The colors do seem to match up better in those pictures.  I love the fact that you are smoking the tyre!  How much tread is now under your seat!?!

thanks, rachet unfortunately there wasnt that much smoke as it was a windy day, thats why i turned round!! well there was quite abit under the seat and over the numberplate!

           I agree, that is one SHARP LOOKING ride alright!

     Just one question, did you ever think about some of the orange on the back wheel, to kind of balance it out? Not cutting on your bike, I was just thinking (and YES, I know that could be dangerous. ). Just a thought. Definitely a distinctive look for your 650.

thanks alot to everyone that likes the bike, it gets alot of attention here in the uk.yeah i had thought that, but was unsure of where to paint! i thought a bout paiting the lines on the rear drum but decided not to in the end. any suggestions bill440cars?

                    Not sure right off, and you do understand that I'm not knocking the look of the bike in ANY way don't you? You have done a great job with it. I was just thinking (which is MY problem, sometimes ) the it could use a little of that treatment on the rear of he bike, but I'm not sure right now just what it would be.

Love your bike man!  Cafe racers are awesome.  A good trick to wrapping your pipes is to soak the wraps in a bucket of water before you wrap.  Once you are done just run the bike and the pipes burn off the water and srink the wraps tighter.  Helped me out a lot when I did mine!

i do understand you are not knocking my bike at all, but i always like people to comment on my work, good or bad.
i didnt think off the woter trick for the wrap, until i did them and was riding in the rain and checked evrything was ok after the ride, and found they had got alot tighter!!

the seat Ecosse, i bought again fromm ebay for £10 and modified it abit, it used to have a sort of mudguard on it, but i cut that off, and have shortened it to a single seater. i have just found out what bike its from, some sort of dunstall triumph, so im wondering if its quite rair, i will post a picture of it if can find one, but still, it was in pretty bad shape wjen i got it!

its funny you should say that canuck, i have my eye on a set on..... you guessed it.... ebay again, they are only at £10 at the moment so i wll try to get these. one question, are the guages the same size as the 550 guages andthe 750 ones?

also does anyone know where to ge some guage faces to fit the 650, i have read throught the posts on here and asked carpy for some, but he seems to think my guages could be off anything! and on the forum, when people ask about the creator selling some the post ends!!

so any ideas?

          That's good, cause I don't want to come across as one who starts cutting on what someone has (or is) done (or doing) to their bike. If I can't make a compliment or a decent constructive suggestion, I keep my thoughts to myself. After all, it's not mine. Good looking build there and I like the way you have used the orange to accent it. If I DO happen on a thought to add the accent to the rear, I'll post it for your consideration and understand, if you decide not to go that route. I always try not to push MY ideas, as I have seen done on occasion.

the mirrors are motrax mirallys ones, they were around £50 in the uk. i got mine from the local motorbike shop near me.one of them is damaged as i havent changed them since i threw it down the road last march!
