History of the HD wave revealed!!!
« on: April 28, 2008, 03:18:24 PM »
Okay, actually it's just something that occured to me when I had nothing else to think aobut...

First, we need to agree that most HD riders use a low hand with two fingers extended as a greeting.  A few use just the index finger.  If it's the middle finger, that's a whole other topic.   :-\

Now, even most HD riders don't know how this got started, but I have a theory:

Most use the two fingers, 'cause they're proud to be on a V-twin.

The one finger wave?  They're 1%er's.  They're rebels, and want you to know not to mess with 'em.   8)  Or they're idiots who didn't get the memo.    ;D

Hey, I didn't say it was a good theory!

So, I now propose the Honda salute.  Four fingers, instead of just a measley two.

Now, let's let the HD forums start a topic "Why do Honda riders use four fingers to wave at us?!?"

 ;D

(see what happens when I have too much free time?)

When I wave I only use half a finger, if you don't know why, look up the 1% thread in the humor section.

Back in the 1960's we raised our fists in the power sign since there were so few of us. Now, the low wave is easier since you  can pas a bike every few minutes.

I always thought that the 2 finger V was for "peace" unless it was vertical and your tounge was in the center of the V.
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

When I ride out east on the small country roads away from the tourist traps I get many people in 4 wheelers waving at me.  Last year when I had my flat out there had several stop to see if they could help.

hand down low is the way now
back in the 70's it was fist held high
back then it was really unsafe to ride because of 4 wheelers attitudes

Actually I've rarely been waved to in either of these ways.  Usually it's just an open-hand wave, down low.  If either of us is busy shifting or breaking, then it's head nods.

Am I weird for waving at people regardless of what type of bike they're riding?  I just figure that all of us two-wheelers need to stick together.

When I am on my Sportster, I wave to any rider I see and usually receive waves from other riders no matter the bike they are on.

Agreed.  The whole 2 vs. 4 thing just occurred to me the other day, and I thought I'd have fun with it.

The seriousness of these responses just proves I should stay in the Shameless thread where they understand me...   :-[
