MY CAFE IS FINALLY DONE!!
« on: May 05, 2008, 12:54:29 AM »
Well, here it is! My 78 cb750f gulf oil cafe is finally complete! She is running great, although my mechanic friend Steve of Las Vegas Dyno says there is trouble with carb #1 and thinks that I should get a set of smooth bore mikunis. I couldnt tell that there is a problem, she runs great to me! Im going to ride the hell out of her until the summer heat puts a stop to it then spend the $ for the new carbs! One of the tabs for the left side cover broke the 2nd day I had the bike back, but I am going to try to repair it with some glass, and locate a spare and have it painted to match. I have to say I was just the idea man and did not turn too many screws on her! I have to thank Steve and Omar for all their help. I hope you all like the end result from my vision for this first cafe build. any feedback is more than welcome![/img]

That's pretty damn mean looking.  I like it!

Can you put a carriage return between the pics so we don't have to scroll left and right to see them all?

Great looking work!

Did you powdercoat or paint the wheels?

I dig the Gulf Oil colors, like those GT40's. Something you don't see every day.

i remember seeing the paint scheme and wondering what this was going to shape up into.  it looks great- really original design.  i too am used to seeing the headlight bucket in color and the gauges left black to draw less attention there, so my reaction was the same.  but it could grow on me.

I just painted the wheels for now,I plan on powder coating then this summer. I thought long and hard about the gauges and I like how the stripe seems to continue along bike with them orange.I think I may paint the headlight ring black? She sounds menacing with the cut down yoshimura slip on!

an orange bucket would continue the line from the tank, might even make the gauges blend in as they are- and the bezel in black would fit too- not a whole lot of chrome left on this sexy beast.  ;D

Great work. I like the unique orange and paint scheme. Were you shooting for a 1970's period look? Because to me, the colors, paint scheme and seat remind me of the mid-70's.

I don't know, it doesn't look complete until it's got a big 6 or 40 painted in a white circle.  ;)

Seriously though, that's an unusual and brilliant homage to my favorite race car!

Nice work! Are you planning on rigging up some rearsets?
Does clinching your teeth slow you down in the corners?

Cool bike, I didn't realize it was Gulf colors, had to look at it twice.  Your switches, are those from a Yamaha FZR?  I was going to try those but the bar diameter just looked off, didn't measure.

No plans for rear sets a the moment. The switches are from a yamaha on the right and suzuki on the left I think. My buddy Steve at Las Vegas Dyno has a pile we picked through
