Found a Sandcast motor - $750?
« on: May 09, 2008, 07:32:57 AM »
What to do!? I've been offered a very early sandcast motor for $750. It's partially disassembled, seized but I can't tell how bad, appears to be complete, no carbs. Fins are in good shape. Covers in ok shape. I'm tempted just because it's a piece of history but a very expensive rebuild. And, once down the sandcast road there's no turning back. I'm not one to resell things, much to my wife's annoyance. I have a ton of K0 stuff but no early frame although there's on offered in another thread. Yes, I have checked ebay too.  :-\
A bit of advice please like what the hell are you thinking BUY IT! Or..............
Cheers,
Cliff.

The big question is does the case have a hole in it from a broken chain?

I think if you've got the  $ go get it. A sandcast clutch cover went for about 4-500 the other day on ebay. I doubt that you will loose money.

No hole from a broken chain and no welding marks there either. Sorry, should have said that.

I don't see you losing any money on that deal assuming there isn't some catastrophic damage in there somewhere.

Have you bought it yet?

nice. I feel ya when you ask what have I done.
I brought home 2 cb750's yesterday and said the same thing. But last night I was looking on ebay at some of the prices for some of the stuff and it is soooo tempting to part both of them out.

look at ebay item number 280222376547 over 2 grand for a 69 sand cast tank that needs restoring.

part it out and make 5 grand

yes I know I am just saying look at that tank.. if that tank gets 2+k magpies motor has to be worth that in covers

My ebay research included a 1972 cb750 srearch for parts only.. A guy parted out a basket case w/o pipes. So I added up all of his completed auctions for the bike and he made close to 2k.

Pics! Where are the Pics?  ??? ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
