I managed to get a pair of small vice-grips on the points screw..the 2-3 cyl ones were totally closed. Adjusted perfectly for static timing now. Bike PURRS!! I'll replace the screws later, and not worry about the valve inspection covers (i did the other 6 and they were all good).

Hi! First post....was tuning up my new to  me 77 CB750k yesterday.

A few questions:

1. can't get the valve adjuster port covers off on #2 + 3 intakes...just seized on there, and starting to round off....

2. Went to set points gap and the brass screw heads were already mangled. I tried cutting a slot in them with a dremel to get a flat head screwdriver on it but they are just too soft. Any other suggestions?

3. The points were closed at the 'F' mark and didn't open fully until about 30˚ after. I didn't measure the gap at that point. Should i correct the static timing first and then see how my gaps are? The bike idling a little rough at 1000rpm, though loads of power at higher. No backfiring. It would seem that the timing is slightly retarded then, if the points are 'late' opening, right?

4. How to set the static timing with an ohmmeter? Do i still hook up to the blue wire and ground, ignition off, and just watch for continuity?

thanks
