New from Indianapolis, IN
« on: May 19, 2008, 03:07:57 PM »
I just got back my 73 CB750 in which it has been in the shop for about a month being turned into a cafe racer. Pics soon to come. Flat black and Chrome only BABY!!!!

It is definately fast!!! Needs a little work on clutch, however. Any help is appreciated as I am new to riding and working on motorcycles.

The main problem is that the clutch seems to be slipping at highway riding when I give it throttle. Can't seem to break the 60mph barrier without easing off throttle and gradually increasing it. It still slips even when no change is applied on highway cruising.

I see tons of threads on this issue, so I will do research before diving into the question asking, but any help with this problem would greatly be appreciated.

So, Hello and hopefully as I grow I will be able to pass on the knowledge as well!

ROCK ON!

I also am new from NW Indpls. Not new to CB750 however. If your clutch is slipping and its adjusted properly, not much more to say, you need new clutch plates. Heavier springs would be a band-aid. Readily available from speed shops, or use the CB77 Honda springs center digits "268" as they are heavier and slip right in.  A bit shorter but that doesn't matter as they are compressed on installation anyway. That was a cheap drag racer fix back when the 750 was brand new.

Thanks for the advise MC. I got the clutch issue taken care of. Just tossed in a new set of ebc heavy duty friciton plates and I believe something like Veater heavy duty springs from cycle recycle II (Rob). This guy knows his stuff.

Anyways thanks to all and hope to see you out!

That's all it takes, now you can do burnouts all day! The stock clutch can be ruined with aggressive riding of a stocker.  The mods you have made can handle twice the HP.

I know Rob, he used to know me from past CB750 projects, but I haven't been to CRCII in about 5 years. I'll be reacquainting myself with him now that I'm back in project mode as like you say, he really knows CB750s.

Yeah he had my jets and pods but no manifold boots.  He told me where to find them but I didnt have a pen and I was not about to ask him to repeat himself.  Found hes an awesome resource as long as you dont annoy em.

He was a CB750 expert back when they were current models. I'll bet he answers CB750 questions 2 to 1 over any other model (maybe ALL other models combined!). Losing patience suffering fools.

Good used rubber manifolds probably in short supply as they deteriorate with age. I've extended life on some by rubbing black silicone into the cracks and massaging armorall into the opening lip areas, though this does make them slippery as well. The stock clamps won't draw down on old used up manifolds, so i replace with hose clamps that can draw tighter. I'm pretty sure you can buy new ones still from the factory which is the best way to go.
