cb550 rear wheel bearings
« on: June 10, 2008, 09:39:49 PM »
Can anyone tell me the outside dimensions of the bearings for the rear wheel on a cb550.  I am trying to find bearings, but my hub is not present for me to measure.  Thanks in advance

I just put calipers on a new set of rear bearings for my CB500 sitting right here on my desk (waiting for me to install them) and they are 52mm OD, exactly.

I am like 99% positive that the CB550 uses the same but you might want to double check?

UPDATE: I went and checked the Honda parts book and the parts numbers are the same for my '73 CB500 and a '78 CB550 so it looks like they are, indeed, the same.

Ok, thanks for that.  If I am not mistaking, doesn't the hub have two different size bearings.  One smaller and one larger on the sprocket side?

Hmmm. . .  interestingly enough, both of mine are the same size. Its what Pyramid sent me (they BOTH say "6304 DDU" on them - *doh*!) so maybe something is up as I notice that the Honda OEM part numbers are indeed, different for each side:

BEARING (6305U) (sprocket side)

*great* "Adventures" in after-market parts, I guess - glad I know now though rather than when I am in the middle of the project! lol (I picked up another rear rim though, so I could take my time re-lacing and building them - and to keep cycle downtime to a minimum)  Sure glad I read this thread. . .I will have to contact them for the other bearing then, too.  :P

Thanks for for the blow up.  So, does anyone have a spare hub around that they can measure the left side inner bearing OD on?

*bump*  Anyone on that sprocket side bearing OD???  we could kinda really use the info. . ..

I contacted Pyramid today and told them of the issue on their CB500/550 rear "set" and they immediately offered to send me the 6305 bearings for free (two of them so that I would then have two correct rear sets, since I have two 6304 bearings right now). They are checking into it and are going to correct the set for future sales, too - pretty cool of them. I just want to get the OD measurement too though, to really make sure all is correct.
