Airshow in my back yard
« on: June 20, 2008, 07:40:44 PM »
Well, almost in my back yard........ 10 miles away  :)

Canadian Forces day at Base Borden Ontario. http://www.borden.forces.gc.ca/998/5/5-25-eng.asp

On the list are the Snowbirds, a CF-18 demonsration team, several stunt pilots and a few old birds including a Spitfire.

Not a big list but a 15 minute drive I think I'll go all weekend  ;D

Anyone else from S. Ont. going?

 Matt.

I live in menasha, wisconsin which is about 15 or so miles north of Oshkosh where they have the big EAA air show in the summer. It's always neat because around the time of the show, even up in menasha, you'll get to see and hear all these old warbirds flying over on their way to and from the show.

I go to school in Oshkosh and every once in a while the EAA will be out flying their B-17. It always makes me smile and think "where else can you go to school and see a b-17 flying around?" Neat stuff.

The weather held up  :), although it's trying to rain now.

Only took a few pics...... I don't have a great camera for these types of shots.

This is Gene Soucy in a modified Grumman Ag Cat. Didn't get any shots with the wing walker gal he had on later in the show.

That's awesome! Never been to Oshkosh but know lots who have. I sure would like to get there some day.

It's a good time. Haven't been there in a few years. Had to go 3 years ago to see Space Ship One and Glacier Girl. I remember one year my dad and I were  walking around and it started to rain. So where did we go? We just camped out underneath the wing of a DC-3 and talked to some folks from minnesota. Now where else can you do that?

Like the Hoodlemeister, I am from Oshkosh and spent 20 years working the EMS ambulance on the flight-line during the EAA show.  Those are the best seats in the house when those warbirds come screaming by.  I really enjoyed it.  The crashes were not a highlight of the job, but the show was terrific.  Got to meet Bob Hoover, Paul Poberezny and others.  Many celebs there like Harrison Ford, John Denver, John Travolta, The Beach Boys, and I hear Foreigner is the head line this year.  Show starts July 28th.
