The barn queen is on the road
« on: August 29, 2005, 07:05:57 PM »
Hey guys,
Here's an update on my CB550K.
You may remember that I found this bike on the bulletin board at work and bought it for $400.
The Barn Queen is now stripped of her fairing, sissybar, and crash bard.
The chrome is polished.
I now have her kickstarting cold on the first kick.

The only non-standard part is the flyscreen which is a from a Buell and trimmed with a Dremel tool to the correct height.  I painted it gloss black with Krylon Fusion paint and got pinstriping from the automotive store to match.  I countersunk the holes in the flyscreen and used flathead metric allens to mount it to home made aluminum brackets.

Here's the tally.
$400 for the bike
$210 for tires
$90 for the rectifier
$65 for the flyscreen

Very nice mate, you didn't mention the cost of a gallon of oil and a new oil filter, er, you did change the oil, didn't you? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nothing but the best for my bikes.
I run Amsoil in my BMW R1150R and now have the Honda on the same.  Good stuff.

I like the oldschool tires. Qualifiers?

Those are Bridgestone Spirfires.  They handle and grip great.

I can't tip the screen back much farther because it's up against the gauges.  to get it to look "right"  I'd have to trim it some more and perhaps shift the headlamp forward some.
