Installing Centre Stand CB500 K2
« on: July 06, 2008, 07:17:29 AM »
I have been restoring my first bike (CB500F K2) that I rode.  This project has absorbed the best part of two years.  This is also the first bike I have ever worked on and I am a complete newb.  Originally, I stopped riding it because I put it under a car that did a U turn in front of me over 25 years ago.  It took me 20 years to get back on any bike (currently ride BMW R1200 ST), I still walk with a limp in the colder months, but kept this bike rusting away in my backyard all this time through 6 house moves.  Interestingly, when I pulled it out from under the ivy a couple of years ago I managed to get it running on 3 cylinders just by putting petrol in it!

The bike did not have its centre stand when I started this project having lost it some where over the last 20 odd years.  I have put a new one on, but for the life of me I cannot work out where the little C thing that attaches to the spring fits onto the frame.  It is just possible that the mounting point became damaged in the original accident.

Is any one able to give advice/supply a good photo to help?  For the life of me I cannot find a got shot of this anywhere.

Here you go...a pic is worth a thousand words.  ;D  Good luck with finishing your bike.  Pretty neat you kept it after all those years.  You see, once you get the bug you can not get it out of your system.  I have had the bug since 1969 and there is no cure!!!

Thanks for the super fast reply!

It is night here now so I will have a look in the morning before work. I suspect that the little rod the c part hangs off is gone from my bike, but I may of missed it.

My guess is you missed it.  It won't fall off as it is welded pretty good there.  If it is gone that is because someone did not want it there.  I hope you find it.  Oh, I use a coat hanger to pull the spring into place.  I wrap a towel around my hand so the wire does not cut into the hand as it is a pretty strong pull there.  I then block the wheels so it will not roll.  I sit on the floor and put my feet on the front foot peg for leverage...and pull nice and slow.
