1978 CB550K Project
« on: July 09, 2008, 08:07:38 AM »
Hey guys, just picked this up from a guy for $250.

It's not running at the moment; from what he was showing me it looks like it needs a new coil (only two plugs firing) and maybe some float adjustment on the carbs because they are leaking out of the overflow tubes.

It also is missing the left mirror, the air intake cover for the carbs, the left side cover panel, needs a new throttle grip pipe, and obviously a cleaning and paint job.  The bolts that hold the back shocks to the frame are also broken off...I'm not quite sure if there is a fix for this without welding.

It is the Candy Alpha Red version, but someone did a bad black paint job over it.  It also came with the original hard case saddlebags which are kinda cool.

This will be a project, and my first bike; but hopefully I can knock it out and restore this baby.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance  ;D

Here are some pics of the other stuff that the guy gave me with the bike (including the hard bags).

Don't ask me why he had 2 right side panels  :-\

Well, got it running.

It's popping a little and not running smooth though, I guess that means I need to mess with the timing?
