CB550 76 Carburetor synch instructions?
« on: July 13, 2008, 06:10:39 AM »
Im getting ready to buy a manual which I should but can
anyone point me to a carb synch link on here.
It doesnt seem to be covered in the online manuals, maintenance..etc.

What I mostly need to know is
Where are the adjusters?
Under the big brass Hex heads? or the little external silver nut/screw combos
with the spring steel bands between each set of two. I have heard no 2 is the reference carb.

Thanks for any help

if you look in the FAQ you will find the service manual for the cb500/550, in this manual is the description of how to do the carb sync.

Thanks, I found this a while back but..funny thing the carbs in the manual were different than my Keihin a87s which are the stock units. Im going to assume that the
external silver nut and threaded shaft on top of each adjuster is where the adjustment is made.
What puzzles me is that there are 4 of them and carb 2 should not have an adjustment?

The carbs for the K3 are quite different from the earlier carbs.  Your's should look like and operate like the ones in chapter 4.

Sometimes all carbs can be adjusted...like on my 550F '76 carbs. I didn't see that in any manual either, but if you have 4 adjuster screws they just are.

And don't waste time doing a carbsync for 2 hours. You won't get them better than in the first ten minutes anyway. They keep moving out of sync .....

Just stop after 10/15 minutes.
