need help with front forks, cb400f
« on: July 26, 2008, 02:43:52 PM »
Hello I'm trying to dissasemble my front forks to put in new seals. I removed the springs from the top and bled out the fluid. I tried to remove the lower retaining screw and it just spins but I cant remove it. Any suggestions???

Yah...the allen screw just turns with part #9.  You have to put some pressure on the top of part #9 to get that to let loose.  Sometimes all I have to do is put the spring back in and the top fork cap back on tight and that will tighten up that for you enough to get it out.  Sometimes I have to put a long broom handle in there and put pressure on part #9 and that will work.  Hope this helps.

TT has a good idea with the air impact driver.  I have one but opted for the wrench and it came out fine.  So if you do not have one you may still be OK.  Some of the manuals tell you to use some blue Lock-Tite on that allen when you put it back and some do not.  Reference your manual...
