Anyone Have Borrani Rims on their CB750K?
« on: July 31, 2008, 01:31:08 PM »
Looking to set up my '74 CB750K with some Borrani rims.  I know I need a  40 hole WM2 19" for the front and a 40 hole WM3 18" for the rear, just want to make sure I don't accidentally buy a Harley rim or something.  Anyone actually running these rims?  Most of the ones I see on ebay are for Moto Guzzi's, and I'm pretty sure I need to stay away from those as well due to the high likelihood that the hub sizes are different.   :-\

You won't confuse a Borrani with Harley rims....   Good luck finding them.  You can always re-lace them to your existing hubs
as long as they are 40 spoke.....
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

a rear 16" borrani sold on ebay for 4 or 500. you can lace any rim to a honda hub as long as it's a 40 spoke and can clear the chain. just will need to spend the extra $$$ for custom spokes

There is a handfull of Borrani  rims for Harley Believe it or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/harley-xl-sportster-18-WHEEL-RIM-sprint-amf-xlr-borrani_W0QQitemZ370072441104QQihZ024QQcategoryZ35558QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Just wondering if anyone who is on this forum is lucky enough to actually be running a set of WM2/WM3 Borrani's on their 750.  It's a lot of money to drop, and then find out that they won't lace up to my hubs.

I have a shouldered Borrani on the rear of my 750. Check out Excel shouldered, dimpled rims, they are very similar. I have a couple of these, add polished SS spokes and they make for nice wheels, albeit $$.

What Kind of markings does your rear Borrani rim have?  I've seen several different 40 hole 18" WM3 rims with different markings.  Usually something like WM3 Record, 18 3 Record, etc.

It is Borrani, but I don't think there was ever anything stamped on the rim, maybe inside. I installed that thing in 75.

I have a Borrani on the front of Phaedrus I, or had, as it is undergoing rebuilding as Phaedrus II. It says on the side: "Borrani WM3-19 Record RM01 4403 Cross" You can see it on page 3 of my build thread "Phaedrus II" in the Project Shop forum. It has a 110/90x19 tire on it, massive combo. I can understand why you may be feeling the attraction now that I felt then, But I grew weary of turning that thing in and back.

At the time I built Phaedrus I, (1980) I had a hard on for shouldered rims. I scored the Borrani front, but couldn't find a rear and so have a cheap imitation (joke) Akront or Excel I forget and its not marked, shouldered rim for the rear. Drilled and laced them both myself.

Thanks for the info.  I was under the impression that I needed the WM2 19 for the front.  What is the difference between WM2 and WM3 anyhow?  Some strange Italian Code?

WM2 is 1.85" wide inside lip width, WM3 is 2.15, WM4 is 2.50.

I'd bet a WM3 would fit the front, especially with a 100/90 front tire compared to a 90/90 front tire(some people run these). The tire width difference is about the same as the wheel width difference.

As mentioned, I had the WM3 on my front. The shoulder came within a papers thickness of one of the bolts heads on the dual disc setup, but it did fit.  I ran the 110/90.

The WM2 with a 100/90 would have been the better choice I think. Maybe even a 100/80.
