Any 6 volt Honda Guru's out there? (Honda S65 Question)
« on: August 05, 2008, 05:13:47 AM »
Hi
I have an S65 and am looking for some info.

The turn signals will only start to flash when I get the revs way up there. I do not have a manual (Don't say it...I know  ::) )
Anyway...I am thinking of the lighting coil maybe? Any other suggestions. (Yes it is a 6 volt flasher)
Headlight won't come on at idle either....but requires less revs to bring it on.

Thanks for any help.

Steve: Had the same problem with my S90. Probably not the flasher unit (unless it's a 12V).  They either work or don't. Since both sides are the same, would start with the grounds. Mine are all tied into a common ground. Cleaned all the terminals (+ and -), all the sockets, and made sure all the connections were tight and now they flash even when not running.

PS : Since your lighting is dim, appears your charging system is not putting out enough juice. Not much room for error with only 6 volts. Should max out about 7-7.2v.

What condition is your battery in?
New or unknown? Is the fluid topped off?

I have over 6 volts sitting...7.1 revving.
Headlights seem fine...even aat idle....but turn signals won't cut in till 2-3000 grand????

And then not reliably.

This sucker is positive groung no?

I am getting continuity everwhere.

Any more suggestions?

Try an electronic flasher, those old mechanical
flashers take a lot of juice to operate.
On a different note, I drove a 53 Chevy with original
6 volt system for 11 years (1989 to 2001), I found it ran a lot better
with an 8 volt battery. The generator and regulator
put out plenty to keep it charged and starting was
much crisper.
