Oil leak
« on: August 06, 2008, 02:33:04 PM »
Ok it's a 1982 cb 650 sc nighthawk 14k i have located a leak (not bad) but i intend on fixing it this winter, here is the blown up and # 6 is the bad gasket. My question is while i have this much of the head off what else can i inspect or replace what are possiable problem areas. I don't see any other gaskets that need replacing based on the blowup the valve cover gaskets should be fine is there any pucks or rings iam not seeing?

Yes. there are two o-rings that you should replace. If you can find the parts fiche for the cylinder, you will see the o-rings fit between the cylinder and the head.

You wont touch those other O rings unless you remove the head which you dont appear to be planning on. That "gasket" is in fact an O ring just not a round one

well, when you got that removed, you can take a good look at your valvetrain, like cam, rockers, timing chain etc..
the biggest problem these 650's have is one step lower, between the head and the cylinders...they really like to leak out oil from the sides, due to the o ring failure what tonycb650 was talking about..

all depence how far you wanne take this.....
