i couldn't get an accurate reading on my mph since the speedo was jumping from 60 to 90.

Bad cable can cause that.  Have you checked/lubed it?

All in all, not bad for a 400 mi round trip.  Sounds like overall the bike performed well.

Smoke may be from oil soaked into exhaust wrap.

it's a new cable but i think it does need to be lubed. at highway speeds i think the cable is binding and then springing back out which makes the speedo "bounce".

i probably rode an extra 100 miles since the end of my trip and i think i just finally burned off all the oil  :D

i have a wierd clunking now coming from up front. i want to say it's the bearings. 31K miles on the bike on original bearings, what do you think?

My 78F's bearings were shot at 22K miles.

I'm replacing them with tapereds.

Nice work mate!
