Which CB750 to ride from Boston to Mid-Ohio?
« on: July 18, 2008, 04:41:52 AM »
On Thursday Ill be riding from Boston MA and heading for Mid-Ohio for the Vintage motorcycle meet. Distance is 700 miles each way. Both of 750s are running very well. Since its a cafe theme at this years event I am thinking about taking the cafe CB750. But I will need to change the Guillirari seat to the stock one (on the K4) for the ride as the cafe seat is only good for 250 miles or so before it gets very uncomfortable. Will be sitting at 80mph for the first days riding (500 miles) to Dubois, PA. But by changing the seat I change the whole look of the cafe bike so am I better off sticking to the K4?  ::) I know tough choice, right  ;)

Alternatively does anyone have good suggestions for some padding (that I can buy easily before Thursday) that could possibly be placed on the cafe seat raising it so I have more leg stretch (Im 6`4, 36` inside leg). Cramp is another factor! Stock bike no problem, cafe bike cramp can set in.....

The K4 can ride all day and Ive had it on plenty of long distance trips but the K2 has not, but has those sexy sounding HM300s, drop bars and strong stock motor (51,000 miles, untouched!) are very appealing especially for this vintage cafe event.

Here are the bikes...

CB750K2

CB750K4 (back last week from a 1250 mile ride to upstate NY)

votes and comments please :-)

Hey Andy,

My vote is for the Cafe all the way with the Guliari seat.  Go buy a good pair of bicycle shorts with good ass padding and wear them under your jeans for the ride.   ;D

Sounds like a blast!

You can't make too much popcorn, but you can definately eat too much popcorn.

Andy,
Get an Airhawk seat cushion and throw it on the cafe for the ride.  http://www.therohostore.com/Departments/Comfort-Products/AIRHAWK-Motorcycle-Seat-Cushions.aspx
These things are VERY comfortable.  Look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Go cafe, Andy. Keep the stock seat on. Pace yourself to allow for lots of leg-stretcher breaks, especially on the long day(s). Get a small sheepskin fleece for the seat......well, it'll raise a few eyebrows, anyway. ;) ;)

Thanks guys for votes and comments and yesterday with temps hitting 96F,  I finally decided, after taking the cafe K2 on the highway and simulating a couple of miles at 80mph  ;). The cafe K2 is a great bike and speedy, but...not for the 700 miles to Ohio...I could easily see cramp setting in on the legs after 100+ miles on boring highway. Its a bit different when there is a mix of road type (usually takes around 200-250 miles) but for going out it`ll be the superslab (coming back thinking of off-highway at least for part of it....so instead Ill take the K2 to the Vintage bike show in Maine at the end of August and for Ohio Ill be taking the trusty stocker.

Thanks again! And look out for me in Ohio  ;D

cheers

I voted for the stocker too. Cafe's are great to look at, but for comfortable long distance riding, nothing beats a comfy stocker. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well you were all right about the stocker...comfy and drama-free for the 1500 mile round trip - cruising at 80- 85mph on the highway. Great ride!

thanks for the input,
cheers
