Tour of Missouri
« on: September 11, 2008, 03:57:10 PM »
I'm not into cycling much but for those of you that are, Missouri is having it's second bicycle road race across the state. The Tour of Missouri has hundereds of cyclist from around the world ride throughout parts of Missouri I haven't even seen (and I lived here for almost 14 years, lol). Today, the 4th stage ended in Rolla, the town I go to school. I got to witness the bulk of the racers cross the finish line after I got out of class. It's astonishing seeing people from around the world gather in this little po'dunk town. The only time of year when the town's this active is St. Pats (it's an engineering school). At that time, students, locals, and alumni are just totally sh*tfaced.

What blows my mind is they started in Lebanon, a town almost 70 miles west on I-44. The cycling route was through the back roads leaping up and down the interstate on hilly and curvey roads. It takes me nearly an hour to travel from Rolla to Lebanon on the highway. These guys cycled all day probably reaching 150 miles! I gotta really respect these athletes/cyclist in all the hard work they do to prepare for events like this. Kinda makes me wanna get out my old Peugot roadbike and ride some more.

The race is halfway over as they begin in the next town over (St. James) and ride to the state capitol, Jeff. City.
